RE: GDC Unit 17 Improvements
Dear Mr. Pope:
Please be advised that an on site inspection was performed by our city
Engineer on March 30th, 1988 and again on April 1st, 1988.
The following recommendations were made and must be complied with:
The west pour of the concrete patch is showing signs of structural
distress and failure. We discussed the installation of the patch
with our on-site inspector Mr. D. Floward, and he indicated that traffic
may have been allowed to use the roadway patch to soon before the
concrete had cured.
We have reviewed GDC's detail -for the concrete patch replacement.
It appears that no structural consideration was given to the concrete
patch detail for traffic impact loading. The reinforcement specified
is minimal and mainly for temperature and shrinkage.
Based on our inspections and review of the detail for concrete roadway
patch replacement, it is our recommendation that the concrete patch
be removed. We recommend that a asphalt patch be used instead of
the concrete patch. This will prevent future problems between the
Interface of the flexible roadway and the ridge concrete patch.
If GDC insists on the concrete patch, it should be structurally re-
designed to carry the anticipated traffic loading. In addition,
traffic shall be
prevented from travel on the patch until the concrete
has adequate time to cure.
It is imperative that these recommendations be taken care of as soon as
possible and if you should have any questions, Please feel free to contact
my office regarding this matter.
We look forward to hearing from you with regards to this matter.
Very truly yours,
a
Jerry Thomas
