BOX 6368 VERO BEACH, FLORIDA 32961 305-569-0035 July 18, 1988 Mr. Jerry Thomas City of Sebastian Post Office Box 127 Sebastian, Florida 32978-0127 Subject: Culvert Replacement - Wimbrow & CR -512 Sebastian, Florida Engineer's Project No. 88-208E Dear Mr. 'Phomas: As requested, we have performed an on-site inspection of the col- lapsed culvert pipe, located at the intersection of CR -512 and Wimbrow Drive. Based on our on-site inspection and your review of the original design drawings, the existing collapsed pipe is a 43" x 68" oval metal pipe. We understand that you want to replace the collapsed culvert with a 48" round metal pipe. The equivalent required round pipe for the existing 43" x 68" oval pipe is 54". We further understand that the 48" is readily available, and can be purchased economically. Knowing that the County and City has future plans, to rework the road- way drainage system in the near future and the forty-eight inchs (48") is temporary, we can approve the smaller size culvert. Further justi- fication for our approval is based on our observation of the drainage ditch that it does not appear to have ever functioned at full capa- city. Since the 48" pipe is smaller, than the existing pipe, it's hydraulic carrying capacity is less that the existing pipe. We recommend that the hydraulic gradeline or slope be increased. The increased slope will be limited by the existing slope of the drainage ditch but, even a few inches will increase the flow rate of the 48" culvert. Should you require further information, please call. Very truly yours, RandyL. osby, P.E. RLM:mrk cc
