Highway #1 Vero Beach, Florida 32960 RE: Traffic Control Devices/Stop Signs Dear George: Just for the record, please be advised that the City Council during their Regular Council Meeting of March 19, 1986, adopted a motion to accept one lump sum contribution of. $6,000.00 from General Development Corporation pursuant to Gordon J. Pfersich's letter of February 26, 1986. Please note that on page two of said letter, 1 have made corrections to the name shown as Mayor and enclosed the original executed letter agreement of acceptance. Pursuant to our phone conversation this date, upon your receipt of this letter General Development Corporation will forward a check in the amount of $6,000.00 payable to the City of Sebastian. PPERi1CN SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT LAND OPERATIONS 3ruar y 26, 1986 a, F E 6 2 7 1986 �j On June 23, 1980, General Development Corporation made an offer to the City of Sebastian that annually, upon a request from the City of Sebastian, General Development Corporation would make a contribution, riot to exceed $2,500.00, to the City of Sebastian to assist the City in meeting its responsibility for the procurement, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices/stop signs. The City has recently requested that in lieu of further annual contributions General Development Corporation make a "one time" lump sum contribution to cover the total cost of traffic control devices/stop signs in the City. The cost for these signs is $6,000.00. Upon the City of Sebastian's acceptance of this letter, General Development Corporation will tender its check in the amount of $6,000.00 to the City of Sebastian. As stated in the attached letter dated June 23, 1980, the City acknowledges its obligation under Chapter 316, Florida Statutes for the location, purchase, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices as the responsibility of local government. Also attached to this letter as Exhibit "A" is a list of platted units in the City of Sebastian that includes the streets which General Development Corporation is relieved of any further contributions for A City Investing Company MAYOR JIM GALLAGHER 02/26/86 Page 2 traffic control devices/stop signs and any maintenance/ replacement of said signs. Allen V.ce Plasldr+t and Assistant C.enerai Carnet In reference to your recent inquiry to me concerning installation of traffic control devices in Sebastian, we are pleased to extend to the City of Sebastian a program which we have developed in the past in our other ccununities. We have adopted a policy of assisting local govern- ment regarding the installation of traffic control devices. We will make a donation of up to $2,500 in any calendar year to the local government. If your city would like to request General Development to assist in this matteer, the city should submit a letter request to our community manager designating the location of such traffic control devices, the itemized cost and total cost. The community manager will then verify that the traffic control devices are to be located within properties developed by General Development and will approve the donation by us of the sums requested, not to exceed $2,500. Determination of the location, purchase, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices is the responsibility of local government under Florida law. Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, the Florida Uniform Traffic Control Law has statewide appplication. General will assist local government to the extent of contributing $2,500 per year, but we will not undertake the responsibilities of local government in this area of determining the location, purchasing, installing or maintaining of any traffic control device. INTERSECTION, This office received a telephone call from a resident on Panoka Street suggesting "SLOW/CURVE" and "STOP AHEAD" signage for north/east bound traffic on N. Barber Street at Hardee Park. They also suggested "STOP" signs from all directions at the intersection of Lake St. and S. Wimbrow. The suggestion seems justified to us.
