HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 - Approval for fundingCROF Z= HOME OF PELICAN ISLAND CITY COUNCIL AGENDA TRANSMITTAL FORM Council Meeting Date: August 13, 2014 Aqenda Item Title: Approve funding for Disc Golf Course Recommendation: Move to appropriate $18,000.00 from Recreational Impact Fees to fund installation of Disc Golf Course contingent upon SJWMD approval. Background: Several citizens have approached staff over the years regarding installation of a Disc Golf Course in the City. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved this idea at their July 28, 2014 meeting. The Stormwater Park off Englar Drive is a possible location. This location would require approval from the St. Johns River Water Management District. Bala Haeseler, a local Disc Golf Pro, has offered to help with the design of the course. Staff will come back to Council with location and final design before installation. Education • Schools may introduce the course into their curricula for physical fitness, ecology, planning, physics, and others. • 42% of current players are college graduates. Community Involvement • Formal and informal leagues and tournaments bring community members together. • Families and friends can share time together.
