Richard H. Gillmor, Mayor Hon. Jerome Adams, Vice -Mayor Hon. Andrea B. Coy, Councilwoman Hon. Jim Hill, Councilman Hon. Bob McPartlan, Councilman Dear Members of the City Council: I am writing to request that you a review a major concern regarding the Sebastian River Landing (SRL) community. Please note that I am writing as an individual resident and taxpayer, not as a representative of the SRL Homeowner's Association. There is a major concern regarding the problem of entering and exiting the community. While the community has two means of egress, one off of Route 512 and the other off of Route 510, both points of egress are located east of a bridge that is used to enter and exit the newer part of the community, referred to as "phase two." In the event that this bridge is damaged and cannot be traversed, there is literally no way to enter or exit this part of the community. This is a dangerous situation and puts the lives of people living in that part of the community at risk. Not only would residents be unable to exit the community, emergency vehicles would not be able to enter. It is clear to see that this is a situation that must be rectified. I understand, although I have not confirmed, that members of the SRL Homeowner's Association met with the city manager and perhaps the city attorney only to be told that the city was in compliance with the law since there are two points of egress associated with SRL. If that is the case, it is just common sense to see that this is a technicality that is being used to circumvent the issue, with the safety and well-being of the residents at stake. I urge you to review this matter and determine a plan to ensure the safety of the residents. As you may know, this part of SRL has grown rapidly and many more people reside there than a year ago. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, ADr. James Parla
