RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 24, 2015 The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by Chairman. Members present were John Tenerowicz, Tammy Nelson, Mr. Paschall, Mrs. Webster Mrs. Flescher, Mr. Sims and Mrs. White were absent Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary and Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent, APPROVAL OF MINUTES JUNE 22, 2015 A motion to approve the minutes was made by Mr. Paschall, second Mrs. Nelson - Unanimously NEW BUSINESS; 2015-2016 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT Chris speaks regarding the budget Chairman questions why sidewalk for Brushfoot is coming from their money and also the paving for the Community Center. He feels it should not be recreation monies. Mrs. Flescher is in favor of paving the community center parking lot but not from Recreational fees Mr. Paschall asks if there is any wiggle room for recreational shade structures or picnic tables — No per Chris -Chris says go to the public hearing on the budget and speak up to council — Chairman will attend the meeting. PUBLIC INPUT; Jim Sunnycalb — Wants to know what is happening with the ducks at Easy Street Park Chris says he called the lady to come and get them but he has not heard back from her. Sonny says the irrigation cover is full of mold — Chris will add it to the list. Dog Park — fire hydrant — Chris didn't call anyone yet. Sonny asks about the marquee at Riverview park for the restroom wall — no says Chris not going to happen. He will bring it up again in October — Sonny asks about the logo at Riverview park Chris says they will paint over it Sonny says need an arch — Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Nelson say no arch — Mrs. Flescher is in favor of one. Sonny says you can see the Fourth of July parade from the dog park website or on utube. STAFF MATTERS; Chairman wants City manager at all the meetings like we had in the past. Says the City has put Disc Golf on the back burner — Mrs. Flescher says there were enough people PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES August 24, 2015 Page 2 interested at our meetings and she is disappointed that the council said there were not enough people. Filbert and George Street playgrounds need pressure cleaning. Lights were out at Easy Street this morning — Chris to check — and the lights on 512 Chairman will check to see if they have been fixed by FPL. Chris says FPL was supposed to clear the trees — and John says Xmas in July had a good turnout. Mr. Paschall — has the info on disc golf will supply if it comes back around maybe we can put it in the 5-10 year plan Chris says agrees with putting it in the 5-10 year master plan Mr. Paschall asks if covered picnic tables outside the skate park can be installed. 2 at least. Mrs. Webster says baseball field could use a couple two. Mrs. Flescher — Got an email regarding scooters at the skate park — No per Chris Mr. Paschall says Lakeland allows scooters on theirs. Would like to see a re -grand opening when it cools down. The bathrooms at the football fields are in bad shape would like building maintenance to look at the handles at least. Mrs. Webster the overhang was put up by Little League not the cities — would like to paint the doors. Mrs. Nelson glad to see the exercise stations at Hardee Park in the budget Chris says they have installed new fountains at Garden Club and Blossom Park — doing the best they can with the help that they have Mrs. Nelson says we need to buy more property for parks. Mr. Paschall says solve current problems before more parks are made says maybe we should meet quarterly rather than monthly.
