HomeMy WebLinkAbout09282015 PR MinutesRECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 28, 2015 The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by Chairman. Members present were John Tenerowicz, Mr. Paschall, Mrs. Webster, Mrs. Flescher, Mr. Sims, Mrs. White. Tammy Nelson was absent excused Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary and Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent, APPROVAL OF MINUTES AUGUST 24, 2015 A motion to approve the minutes was made by Mr. Paschall, second Mrs. Webster - Unanimously approved UNFINISHED BUSINESS — NONE Chris states City Manager could not make tonight's meeting but will be there next month. NEW BUSINESS; PICKLE BALL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA Frank Mannino was not present but sent Scott Nelson in his place 0B Mr. Nelson goes over an unexpected gewer ball presentation for the committee. He would like Sebastian to put in a pickle ball court because playing on the tennis courts with all the lines is confusing. Mrs. White asks what the cost of a court would be. — Chris to research and bring back to the next meeting, possibly 9000 to 14000 per court Mr. Paschall is in support of the request says we have 4 clay courts, Schumann courts, a basketball court, approved a racquet ball court but it was cut back to tennis wall in favor but need a park location may be can work with the county to see if they have land available and the city can build the court. Andrea Coy says this item came before the council and she went out to see the courts maybe we could use the ballfield in the back of city hall — Council sent back to Parks and Recreation for recommendation. PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES September 28, 2015 Page 2 Mrs. Flescher asks if Friendship park can be used — yes but Chris says we can look at other park properties as well. Chris to come back at next meeting with sites and costs — Recreational Impact fees can be used. Mr. Sims agrees with Greg and Rosemary is in favor of the request. Mrs. White is also in favor Mrs. Webster asks why field in the back is not used — would hope we don't take the field away if it is used regularly. Mr. Tererowicz is in favor says it is two inches shorter than a tennis court. STAFF MATTERS; Chris says there is a craft show October 3rd, PD National Night out October 8`h — Clam Bake November 6, 7 and 8 — Secretary says there will be a Music Festival at Skydive Sebastian co-sponsored but the City on October 241i and 251'. BOARD OR COMMITTEE MATTERS; Chairman wants Handicap Parking spaces to be repainted brought up to City Manager there is a handicap parking problem at Riverview park — City Manager would like to see a master plan from the committee. Mrs. Flescher asks if a workshop can be set for the Master Plan discussion. Mrs. White agrees with City Manager being at their meetings quarterly Would like to see Pressure washing in the parks twice a year — Says county public Works has been called to trim the bushes on 512 at the intersections. Mrs. Webster asks if fields are ready for the start of the season — Chris asks her for the new presidents name — she will email to Chris. Chris says doing the best he can, could use more people. Mr. Paschall suggests maybe have a grand -reopening of Skate Park with an event of some sort — have a T-shirt design contest — supports the Master Plan Workshop idea. Mrs. Flescher — bathrooms at football field need work — Chris says Building Maintenance put in new fixtures and the money has been budgeted. Mr. Sims also called Road and Bridge says was told it was the second request for work on 512.
