HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 Election Noticesn PUBLIC MEETINGS OF THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY CANVASSING BOARD AND CANVASSING OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE NOVEMBER 4, 2014 GENERAL ELECTION All meetings of the Indian River County Canvassing Board "Canvassing Board" are open to the public and will be conducted at the Supervisor of Elections Office, located at 4375 43`d Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida. The Canvassing Board will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 to test the voting and tabulation equipment to be used for absentee, early, and Election Day voting. The canvassing of absentee ballots will begin on Monday, October 27. 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Elections Office, and again on Friday. October 31, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. and sealed absentee ballots will be available for public inspection between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the respective dates. The ballots will be opened and processed, however, not tabulated. Absentee ballots will also be canvassed on Monday, November 3. 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Elections Office and public inspection is available of sealed absentee ballots between 12:30 p.m. — 1:30 p.m. The Canvassing Board will reconvene on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. to canvass all remaining absentee ballots. Public inspection of these sealed absentee ballots will be available between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Those wishing to inspect absentee ballots received on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 after 4:00 p.m. must be present throughout the remainder of the day until the polls close. Shortly after receipt, ballots will be opened and processed. Tabulation of all absentee ballots will not begin until after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Pursuant to section 101.68(2)(c)2, Florida Statutes, if any elector or candidate present believes that an absentee ballot is illegal due to a defect apparent on the voter's certificate, he or she may, at any time before the ballot is removed from the envelope, file with the Canvassing Board a protest against the canvass of that ballot, specifying the precinct, the ballot, and the reason he or she believes the ballot to be illegal. A challenge based upon a defect in the voter's certificate may not be accepted after the ballot has been removed from the mailing envelope. The Canvassing Board will reconvene at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014 to canvass the provisional ballots and certify the first unofficial returns. If necessary, the Canvassing Board will meet at noon on Wednesday. November 12. 2014 to certify the second unofficial returns. The Canvassing Board will reconvene at noon on Friday. November 14. 2014 to certify the official results of the General Election and to randomly select races/precincts for the Post Election Manual Audit. On Tuesday, November 18. 2014 at 1:15 p.m., the Canvassing Board will gather in the Supervisor of Elections office to conduct the Post -Election Manual Audit. Audit results will be made public no later than Sunday, November 23, 2014. It may become necessary for the Indian River County Canvassing Board to reconvene at times or places other than specified above. If so, the location, date and time will be announced at the conclusion of the pertinent meeting, posted online at www.voteindianriver.com and posted on the door of the Supervisor of Elections office. Note: Section 286.0105, Florida Statutes, states that if a person decides to appeal any decision by a board agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), if any person with a disability, as defined by the ADA, needs special accommodations to participate in this proceeding, then not later than two business days prior to the proceeding, he or she should contact the Supervisor of Elections Office at 772-226-3440. A PUBLIC NOTICE NOVEMBER 4, 2014 GENERAL ELECTION CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY FLORIDA The City of Sebastian, Indian River County, Florida, will conduct a general municipal election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 for the purpose of electing TWO (2) City Council members for two year terms. The official candidate qualifying period for City Council candidates is August 21, 2014 through September 5, 2014 in accordance with the City Charter. City Council Candidate packets are available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 1225 Main Street, Sebastian, Florida and on City website: www. citvofsebastian.om. Early voting for the 2014 general election will take place in three locations in the County including the Sebastian City Hall Council Chambers from October 21st through November 151. More information regarding early voting and Sebastian precincts can be obtained from the Supervisor of Elections for Indian River County.
