HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998 02 18 - Citizen Letter to City CouncilCity Council of Sebastian c Re: Collier Club Development When we purchased the lot at 278 Main Street Sebastian about ten years ago, it was at that time one of the most expensive lots in the area. A small airport, a beautiful view, close to the golf course, everything one would be content with for a retirement home. Then, all of a sudden we have "dive bomb America" with noisy overloaded airplanes, parachutes coming down all over the place. Somehow, we have to survive all of this. But, now with Collier Park houses coming in and a new road to the "back entrance". Perhaps we'll soon be a median, something like Route 95 and Fla. Turnpike in Jupiter. It was said by a planning authority, that only about TEN cars would come that way a day, out of a possible 900 cars (455 x 2 cars per household.) Take an example, 20% would be 200 cars,. without service vehicles, emptying out on a dangerous intersection now. Someone also said, "the intersection would be straightened out, Fleming - stop, Main St. - stop, Airport Road - stop, maybe even Main St. West - stop. Really, all of this sounds dangerous. After reading the proposal by Collier Park about fixing Airport Road, Parking Lot and Buffer for the golf course, it seems like a cheap price for access to a small private road that was made for an entry to the Club House. Now, the possible page two worth of golf course access lots could raise in value about $500 to a $1,000. more - 455 houses x $1,000. = $450,000. Just think after all the exits and entries are made, then we could see gate houses erected to keep outsiders from using Collier Parks private roads. Most golfers will travel many miles to get to a golf course like Sebastian, as they do now from Roseland, Barefoot Bay, Vero Beach, etc. ,Someone said, to open Main Street and Wimbrow would cause an uproar with the residents in that area, which had happened before. Yet, it is the logical place for an emergency entrance and exit to Collier Park. We the people, are not against the development, just the Air- port Road as an access road, Wimbrow as a full access road, as Main Street could not handle the traffic. Question - Airport Road is a leased property, how can it be made a main thoroughfare road without FAA approval??
