It will shut off the pump for 15 to 20 minutes. You have to determine why the pump is overheating, such as build-up of grease, impeller blockage, bad bearings (upper and lower). You can hear the bearings if they have gone bad. On a squirrel cage induction motor, electric is induced in the motor causing the magnetic field. It is composed of steel laminates. Standard voltages are 230 volts or 460 volts. Some are 208 volts. Most motors up to 20 HP are to be factory rewinds to guarantee the same gage wire, same number of turns, Class F insulation, click -on switch. You get a direct factory replacement. Stator index pin is only for proper installation. 14.8 HP and larger pumps will have a water cooling jacket. Less than 14.8 HP, pumps will have air cooling. Using oil creates a drag and makes an oil filled motor up to 15% less efficient than an air cooled motor. Typically a single ball bearing assembly is used for upper bearings for pumps less than 20 HP. Lower bearings are compressed. They have a heat shrink seal. They have double row ball bearings which accept thrust and radial loads. All ball bearings are packed with lithium grease. The motor compartment should be dry, no oil. Oil will cause the motor to fail. There will be three inspection plugs. The motor inspection plug is the upper one. There is an oil bath in the upper seal to lubricate the upper shaft. A small amount of oil in the motor compartment is acceptable. Upper seal failures will leak oil excessively. If you have globs of grease coming out, you'll know it. BE CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE PLUGS. THEY MAY BE UNDER PRESSURE. USE A RAG OVER THE PLUG WHEN REMOVING THE PLUGS. Flygt uses dual tandem seals, upper and lower seals. The upper seal is in the oil bath. A trace of water is acceptable in the oil chamber. It is recommended to drain the oil out once a year. Do not overfill, because the oil will get into the motor housing and the pump will fail. Ellis K. Phelps, in conjunction with SAS (Service After Sales), will host a training seminar on Flygt pumps and control panels in the Sebastian city Council chambers at City Hall. Since our system has six Flygt pump lift stations, the seminar should be very beneficial to us. Let me know who will be able to attend the seminar. I would like all of you to be present if possible. although I realize someone will have - to mind the plants. Whatever you work out among yourselves will be fine by me as long as everyone has the opportunity to spend some time at the session.
