council voted to split the cost (50/50) with the employee
on their dependant coverage.

except for the following additional benefits:
I- $250.00 dollars for health maintenance. No
deductible is required (this will include pap -exam,
t monograms, and prostate screening, or a general

I'm not saying that my generation was smarter ... but in
my day, envelopes did not have printed instructions on
where to place the stamp.

Ever hear the expression— from a 1939 Peter Lorre
movie — "It's not the heat, it's the humidity"?
My favorite line is, "It's not the heat, it's the
stupidity."
When it's hot outside, some drivers go nuts.
To reduce your risk of getting involved in highway
violence:
Avoid eye contact with other drivers
Don't react to provocation (e.g., obscene gestures)
Don't take traffic problems personally
If you see a crazy driver, keep your distance— drop
back in traffic or take the next exit.

LEAD
V Over 75% of U.S. homes built before 1978 contain
some lead based paint.
When properly maintained and managed, this paint
poses little risk.
However, two million American kids have high
blood -levels caused by exposure to lead-based paints.

oo pressure left untreated in midlife tends to
cause memory problems in later life. (Sorry, I forgot)
For every increase of 10 points of systolic blood
pressure, there is a 7% or greater risk of impaired
cognitive skills.
This study agrees with the ongoing Framingham
study, which found that untreated midlife hypertension
predicts poorer memory and learning skills 20 years later.
NOTE: A normal blood pressure is 120/80.
Anything over 140/90 should be treated with diet and
exercise —and medication, if necessary.

'BAY AT H9
VThebronzed look" you see on "Baywatch" bodies
comes from a bottle.
According to makeup artist JoAnna Connell, "Most
of our cast members have pale skin.
"Although we spend 12 to 14 hours on the beach
when we're filming, everyone avoids real suntanning.
"No one wants wrinkles and lines, and most of us are
concerned about skin cancer."
Connell says the stars use a SPF 15 to 20 sunscreen
on their faces, in addition to the sunscreen_ that's in the
self -tanning lotions they wear.

A 00
recent study found that most of the portrayals of
alcohol in kids' cartoons are positive.
Most of the cartoon characters who drink beer,
wine, or liquor are not visibly affected.
The most commonly shown effect of drinking is
hiccuping.
NOTE: Alcohol abuse leads to more problems than
hiccuping. Ask any kid who grows up in an alcoholic
home.
American Public Health Association Meeting -
Indianapolis
VEighty-six percent of people who spend two or more
hours a day at a computer say they have eye fatigue;
another 32% complain of irritated eyes and difficulty
focusing.
Note: Some say that, in a few years, there will be no
books, no newspapers, and no newsletters. "Print is
dead."
Until we solve this eyestrain problem, I'll remain
unconvinced.

VITAMIN C
VVitamin C may reduce the incidence of exercise-
induced asthma (EIA), according to a small study of 20
patients.
A single, large dose (2 grams) of vitamin C before
exercise prevented exercise-induced asthma in nine
patients and lessened the severity of EIA in two others.

7.000 CALORIES
VYou can eat 7,000 calories a day and all the fat you
want and still lose weight— if you're willing to trek to
the North Pole.
Members of a recent North Pole expedition ate two
meals a day (7,000 total calories), consisting of peanut
butter, fatty meats, noodles, butter, and oatmeal.
All of the members lost weight during the trip.
