Two large buses were supplied to transport people from City Hall to Cape Canaveral. Some of the comments made were; I had a great time! — to —I will never do that again (sea sick?). We will be scheduling more events and possibly another cruise for those who could not attend and those who would like to go again. This time it will be on a Saturday afternoon and on the larger ship. So stay tuned for further updates. YOU GOT TO MOVE How important is exercise in losing weight? A report from the International Food Information Council (IFIC) asserts, "Evidence suggests that greater amounts of weight are lost more quickly with caloric restriction... but when exercise is added to dietary change, even greater weight losses are possible." For example, researcher Steven Blair, PED, an exercise physiologist at the Institute for Aerobics Research, Dallas, found in a yearlong study that dieters who exercised lost more pounds and fat than those who only cut calories. "Exercise builds muscle tissue," says Blair, "and muscle cells burn more calories while you are resting than do fat cells. The more muscle you have, the more energy you burn while at rest." ONE OPINION- DENTISTRY "Poor dental work has always been a problem, but the incidence of misdiagnosis, over treatment, and the application of unfounded techniques is increasing. The most important contributors to this trend are community water fluoridation and dental insurance plans. Fluoridation has decreased the need for fillings. Dental insurance limits the fees dentists can charge for legitimate procedures. To counteract these trends — the reduced need for fillings and fee limits — some dentists treat problems inappropriately, treat non -problems, or treat problems outside their expertise." NOTE: Consider getting a second opinion if you're ever in doubt. Drink eight to 16 ounces of fluid before you exercise. While exercising, try to match your fluid intake with your sweat rate, which varies widely from person to person. Bennett, Writer • The fungus that causes this problem thrives in the hot moist areas of the groin. The chafing caused by clothing makes the problem worse. Symptoms: Itching, redness, oozing, and some peripheral scaling in the groin area. • Immediately after exercising, change out of your sweaty clothes, i.e., don't sit around. Put your clothes in your sports bag or in a clothes hamper. Do not put them back on after you shower; do not put them in your locker for tomorrow's workout. • Use an antibacterial soap such as Dial in the shower. Rinse well. • Use a hair dryer (cool setting) or a clean, dry towel to thoroughly dry the groin area. • Use baby powder to help control moisture. • Wear boxer shorts rather than closer -fitting shorts or jockey briefs. • Be patient— it may take two weeks for the problem to clear up. • If the problem persists, medication such as Tinactin can help. • Lose excess weight. Over weight people perspire more and have more skin -to -skin contact. Sources: The Doctor's Book of Home Remedies II by Sid Kirchheimer; Take Care of Yourselfby Donald M.
