SURVEY SAID!!
The "pink" survey that was sent out to all employees
requesting input on regarding health and dental insurance
results are as follows:
Out of 16 responses:
The majority are attending preferred providers with
Blue Cross. Dr. Netter was asked to participate as a Blue
Cross Blue Shield provider but he declined their offer.
Those who do not attend a doctor who is on the providers
list are paying 30% of the bill plus the difference from the
allowable amount.
Example: Non -provider doctor's bill is $100.00, Blue
Cross allows $60.00 and $40.00 is not allowed. The
employee is paying 30% of $60.00 ($18.00) plus the
$40.00 with a total out of pocket expense of $58.00. A
provider doctor's bill is $100.00, Blue Cross allows
$60.00 and $40.00 is not allowed. The employee is
paying 20% of $60.00 ($12.00) for a total out of pocket
expense of $12.00. The employee is paying $46.00 more
to attend a non participating doctor. $58.00-$12.00=
$46.00
Diabetic Supplies are covered under major
medical. You can obtain the form from Margie Poole in
Finance. The majority suggested insurance provide for
physicals, preventative exams, and prescriptions to cover
for regular health check-ups. Raise dental benefits.
Reduce the deductible. Smoking cessation products
covered. Cafeteria plan.
We want to thank everyone who participated in both
surveys. Your opinion does make a difference and we
would like to continue hearing from you. Should you
have a question about a medical problem, but do not want
to contact an employee to handle this delicate matter, you
can contact Connie Hall at the McCall Agency directly at
5624477. She can help you with any problems you need
assistance with. No question is too small.
CRIME IN SEBASTIAN
By: Chief Randy White
Crime, accident and drug abuse rates are below average.
Most crimes that take place are property crimes. There
have been only two homicides within the past 7 years; one
a murder/suicide and the other was solved by the
Sebastian Police Department by the arrest of Choya
Hodges within 72 hours of the crime. Uniform Crime
Reports, which go to both the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and Florida Department of Law
Enforcement, had the following criminal offenses for the
years shown:
Offense Tvoe Im 1997 1998
Violent Crimes 58 51 35
(Murder, sex offenses, robberies)
Non -Violent Crimes 641 561 499
(Burglaries, larcenies, motor vehicle thells)
TOTAL CRIMES: 699 612 534
The total shows a 12.7% reduction in reported crimes in
Sebastian for 1998.

SHRIMP BISQUE AMERICA
New Year's Day
Submitted By: Richie Schofield
Time 30 minutes; serves it to 6
1 lb. Fresh shrimp
1/3 cup butter
4 cups milk
1/3 cup flour
2 slices onion
3/4 tsp. Salt
1 bay leaf
1/8 tsp. Pepper
1 cup celery, diced
3 tbs. Chopped parsley
Wash shrimp thoroughly in cold running water; put into
rapidly boiling salted water; cover; boil 15 minutes (no
more, no less); drain. When cool enough to handle,
remove from shells; take out black vain which runs down
center back. Save 6 whole shrimp; chop balance into tiny
pieces.
Pour milk into saucepan; add bay leaf, onion slices, celery,
and parsley; scald milk about 2 minutes; do not boil.
Melt butter in deep saucepan over low flame; stir in flour,
salt, pepper. When very smooth, gradually add scalded
milk, stirring constantly until mixture boils; add chopped
shrimp; cook 5 more minutes, stirring constantly. Garnish
with a whole shrimp floating in each bowl on top of
bisque.
NOTE: I substitute Half & Half for milk.
Yes, it really does mean "boil shrimp for 15 minutes."
I leave out the parsley.
