AUGUST, 1995
From the Desk Wendy Widmann
Most employees are eligible for the City's
health insurance and know it will pay something after
a calendar year deductible has been met. However,
there are times when you need to know more in order
to maximize your health insurance benefits.
One of the most used benefits under our
health insurance program is the, prescription drug
benefit. Employees only have to pay $3.00 for a
generic prescription and $5.00 for name brand
prescriptions. If your pharmacist charges you more,
it may be because they are not aware of your
coverage. (Make sure you are at a Preferred Provider
pharmacy.)
Another benefit that employees are not always
aware of is the Accident Care. Our insurance will
waive the deductible and coinsurance requirements,
for up to $500 of covered charges for health care
services and supplies for accidental injuries. In other
words, if you break your leg, you can go to the
doctor (even after hours) or the emergency room and
not have to pay the $300 calendar year deductible.
Note: If you go to a non -PPC hospital, the
deductible applies. If the bill goes over $500, you
will have to pay the deductible (from $500 to $800),
then the coinsurance applies. This also applies to
accidental dental care when your natural teeth are
damaged and treated within 90 days of the date of the
accident. Again, your doctor's office may not code
the bill correctly, so if the visit to the doctor is due to
an accident, let the office staff know in order to
maximize your benefits.
If in doubt, call the City s resident expert, Jean
Tarbell. She will help you understand your benefits
and get your claim processed quickly.

About 10 people attended the Brown Bag Luncheon
on Smoking Cessation. Beanie Lauger from
Sebastian Hospital did an excellent job telling us
about smoking habits and what to do when you
decide you want to quit. Public Works employee
Gary Johnson won the door prize - a ladies one -of -a -
kind -watch with the City logo on the face. A good
time was had by all attendees and one attendee has
stopped smoking already! Congratulations.
