DEFERRED COMPENSATION
DOES IT WORK FOR ME?
Since your contributions are
made directly through payroll
deduction on a PRE-TAX basis,
dollars that would have gone to
the IRS instead are put into
your account. Also, until
withdrawal, all assets in your
deferred compensation account
are exempt from Federal Income
Tax, so your money grows much
faster than a conventional
savings account. EXAMPLE:
CONTRIBUTION TAX NET COST
PER CHECK* SAVINGS PER CHECK
$10.00 $3.00 $ 7.00
$25.00 7.00 $18.00
$50.00 $14.00 $36.00
*Based on a 28% tax bracket
Contact your ICMA or PEBSCO
representative for more
information.
FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Experience shows that about 50% of job performance problems and well over 50%
of accidents on the job are caused by the abuse of alcohol or other drugs.
The risk is not to establish what is wrong, but only that something is wrong.
Leave the diagnosis of alcoholism or some other drug dependency to
professionals. The following highlights job behaviors and performance that
suggest the possibility of an alcohol or other drug problem.
Patterns of Absenteeism and Tardiness
-Late arrival and early departure; long lunch breaks; going to lunch and
calling in sick for the afternoon; Monday and Friday absences; absence
before and after payday and holidays; taking vacation days one at a
time.
Patterns of Unusual Behavior at Work
-Frequent absences from the work area; inability to concentrate;
unreliable in completing tasks; increased nervousness or irritability;
inappropriate statements; overreaction to criticism; complaints from co-
workers, associates, or the public; excessive use of breath purifiers;
hand tremors.
Patterns of Declining Job Performance
-Change of work performance - some days good, some .days very bad;
unreliable in completing tasks; wasted materials, damaged equipment;
excusing performance by complaining of not feeling well; frequent falls,
cuts bruises, spills, breakage; critical errors in judgment, lack of
attention to details; general decline in output.
Alcoholism is often a progressive and fatal disease. Don't let someone you
know become a statistic or cause someone else's impairment or death. Call
Indian River Memorial Hospital at 562-9206 for confidential information or
assistance on alcoholism or drug abuse. You could save a life.
