DEFENSIVE DRIVING The Defensive Driving course is being offered on: -Monday, March 14th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the County Road & Bridge complex. -Thursday, March 24th from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Vero Airport location. Route U.S. 1 from Southern City limits to Northern City limits - Median Beautification Project will begin next month. City Public Works employees will be installing an irrigation system and landscaping will follow. March, 1994 RAINY SEASON HAS BEGUN... Be aware of lightning. Any thunderstorm can produce a lightning bolt or bolts which can kill you. Lightning has often been called the "under rated killer". Lightning will normally strike the highest object in the area of the discharge and is especially attracted to metal, a good conductor of electricity. The highest object might be, for example, a tall tree, a boat on a lake, a metal golf club, a tall antenna, or maybe even a person standing on an open field. Become familiar with lightning safety rules, it may save your life. EMPLOYEE NEWS Community Development's Kathy Nappi returned to work, but is out on sick leave again. Doris Lee ._from Public Works has recuperated from surgery and is now back to work in the Engineering office. Terry Hill is still out, but if all goes well he should return to work soon. This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done! SAM'S CLUB Sam's Club, a division of Wal- Mart Stores, Inc., is offering City employees a free one -day trial membership. Sam's Club has discounted prices on items ranging from food to automobile tires to clothes and housewares. If interested in the free one -day trial membership, call Jean or Sally to get your form. REMINDER Need to exercise? Lose weight? Have some fun? Reduce stress? Get away from it all? Try exercising in the Police Department annex! Any City employee (no spouses or guests) may use the facilities at any time. Simply go to the Police Department dispatch window to get the key and sign in. The exercise room contains Nordic Trak, StairMaster, Exercise bikes, and Treadmill machines along with free weights and Nautilus equipment. Try it, you'll like it! SAFETY SLOGAN NEEDED The Safety Committee is looking for suggestions for the City's Safety Slogan. The slogan should be 3 - 5 words long. Submit your suggestions to Wendy Widmann no later than April 8, 1994. Members of the Safety Committee will determine the winner at their April 15th meeting. The winner of the contest will receive a $25 gift certificate to Captain Hiram's restaurant. SAFETY TIP Four reasons why on-the-job accidents happen: "I was in a hurry." "I forgot." "I was distracted." "It can't happen to me." Remember you can prevent accidents on the job. Come to work alert, remember to use your safety equipment and reinforce good safety habits with your co-workers.
