At age 60, we discover that they haven't been thinking of us at all." Look at how the old proverb, "A stitch in time eaves nine," works: taking one minute to check directions, to repair something, or to put an item back where it belongs can save you nine minutes (or even nine hours) of hurrying, worrying, and basically going out of your mind. Setting priorities and getting organized are the two primary ways of saving time and reducing stress. Here are 21 tips that can help: 1. Decide what's really important to you in life. 2. Use a home wall calendar and pocket datebook. 3. Use your watchl 4. Get a phone answering machine so you aren't a slave to your telephone. 5. Use sticky notepads. 6. Put up a home bulletin board of erasable noteboard. 7. Get enough sleep. 8. Use your head. 9. Don't buy stuff that isn't easy to take care of. 10. Simplify your eating and cooking habits. 11. Delegate work to responsible others. 12. Plan your day the night before. 13. Avoid crowds. 14. Learn to say no to extra tasks for which you do not have the time or energy. 15. Simplify your schedule. 16. Unclutter. 17. Make lists. 18. Make more lista. 19. Decide how long a big project is going to take and, using a calendar, space the work out over time. 20. Get to work a few minutes early. 21. Keep home and job separate. "Hard work is simply the accumulation of easy things I didn't do when I should have done them." BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD HEALTH INSURANCE Effective October lst all eligible employees and their covered dependents will have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance benefits. An ID card for Health, Dental and Prescription benefits will be issued to you, along with a Benefit booklet, prior to October let. Payroll deductions for dependent coverage will begin on the payperiod of September 22nd to October 5th. The paychecks will be received on Friday, October 7th. Employees are reminded to make sure all their covered claims between now and September 30th are submitted to McCreary Corporation as soon as possible as the City will be closing out their account with McCreary in 60-90 days. Some commonly asked questions are listed here with the responses: 1. Why is the price of family coverage so hiah? Some reasons are: -The health insurance plan the City offers is a "Cadillac Plan', offering a low calendar year deductible, dental, prescription and vision benefits. -The family plan covers both a spouse and children, while the other two dependent options cover either spouse only or children only. 2. Do I have to have A D & D with my supplemental life insurance? A D & D is available at your option. You may elect supplemental life only, or you may elect supplemental life and A D & D. (However, you may not elect just the A D & D portion only.) 3. If I sign up now for dependent health insurance, can I cancel it at a later date? YES, BUT ONLY IF you sign a waiver of pre-tax benefits form. If you elect to have pre-tax benefits YOU CANNOT CHANGE your status unless: The Plan year ends (9/30/95); or A change of family status occurs (is. marriage, divorce, death of a spouse or child, birth or adoption of a child, termination or commencement of employment of a spouse.) Employees with dependent health insurance, optional employee life/AD&D and the Vision Service Plan will receive a form to fill out to decline Section 125 tax deferred income. IF you decline the tax deferred plan you may opt out of the dependent insurance coverage at any time. If you are in the Section 125 tax deferred plan, you cannot get out of the plan until the plan year ends, or you'have a change of family status, per IRS rules. Ask him or her if they would be interested. If they are, contact Ron McCall at 562-4119 with the doctor's name and phone number. He will follow up. 5. Can I continue the Groun Life insurance oolicv if I leave emolovment with the City? Yes, there is a conversion policy for the $6,000 term life insurance that the City provides to all full-time employees. There is no conversion policy for the supplemental term life insurance that employees pay for. 6. Can I add my dependents after October let? Yes, but you need to be aware that the Insurance Company will require evidence of insurability for those dependents and can deny coverage if any of your dependents have health problems. Yes you can. The rates will be the same as the current year for dependent coverage - $5.59 per pay period. MISCELLANEOUS NEWS CAN YOU HEAR ME?
