That is what most people think of when you mention the Finance Department. Your City's Finance Department also has the responsibility of paying all bills for every purchase made by the City of Sebastian, no matter how large or small, and charging the proper departments or funds for those purchases. Finance also prepares the Budget, Budget Amendments and Monthly Operating Statements. It is also responsible for tracking the finances of the Golf Course, Airport and Utilities, which are Enterprise Funds. The Finance Department is also responsible for the expenditure and revenues reviewing for Capital Projects, Capital Improvements, County Option Gas Tax, Police Education Fund, ICMA and PEBSCO retirement funds, Police Officers Retirement Trust Fund, Cemetery Trust Fund, and the Group and Liability Insurance Fund, just to name a few. In our spare time, we also do purchasing, risk management and franchise rate regulations. All of the above is in addition to the day to day operation of the department - bank deposits and their posting, journal entries for various transactions, inquiries from various people and the processing of purchase requisitions and orders. So, the Finance Department does somewhat more than just payroll! SUMMERTIME HELP The City was fortunate to have several young people participating in the Summer Youth Employment and Training Program. One of our participants wrote the following of her experience in Community Development. My friends at City Hall "This summer I worked at City Hall. I have to tell you I really had a ball. The people there are the best, Truly funnier than all of the rest. This summer I made new friends, And next summer I hove to do it again. I never had friends quite like them. They are truly a couple of lovely gems. Ann was the shyest, I can't deny this. Her kind of friendship is truly the nicest! Gerry was cute, cute as a button. I wouldn't want to lose her friendship for nothing! Suzi was very friendly, I must say. I'd love to have her for a friend any day! George is quite another story, But I truly adore him! Chuck is nice, much nicer than I thought. His friendship is one that I'm glad I got! Bob is really, truly sweet. Having him for a friend is a very special treat! Jan is very nice. Her friendship could never be sold for any price. Bruce is the boss and a friendship like his, I would never toss! I worked under Kathy, and what a reward. I never knew she was such a sweetheart! This summer I met new people and learned new things. Friends like them are the ones in your dreams. So if you ever work with this gang of lovely people, remember what I said: Remember you heard it from a girl named RED!!!" Thanks to all of our participants. We hope your employment with the City was enjoyable and a worthwhile learning experience this summer.
