MORE MONEY
How can you turn $35 each
payday into more than $125,0007
Simple. By joining your
deferred compensation plan now,
your pre-tax contributions can
grow. A $35.00 investment
every payday can end up as a
$125,000 nest egg in thirty
years. The ACTUAL dollar
investment YOU make adds up to
$27,300.00 in thirty years.
The magic of compound interest
adds almost $100,000 to that
amount. Think about itl
Deferred compensation is a tax -
favored supplemental retirement
savings program that allows
public employees to contribute
a portion of their salary
before federal taxes are
computed to a retirement
account. Deferred compensation
allows you to build savings and
reduce the amount of taxes
withheld on your salary. The
amount you select to defer is
automatically deducted from
your paycheck and invested in
one or more investment options
that you select.
To learn more about your
savings in a tax deferred
compensation plan, contact an
ICMA representative at 1-800-
669-7400 or a PEBSCO represen-
tative at 1-800-432-0822.

SAFETY NEWS
The City of Sebastian has
started up a Safety Committee
which meets once a month to
discuss safety issues; review
policies that might be
implemented and accident and
injury reports to determine
what can be done to prevent or
minimize future accidents or
Injuries.
Accidents are a major item in
the overhead of the City.
These expenses are seen
directly through health,
worker's compensation and
liability insurance costs. The
use of a Comprehensive Safety
Program in the workplace is the
City's way of attempting to
decrease the high costs of
woriter&' compensation losses
and the number of accidents,
injuries, and illnesses. Our
program will consist of seven
key elements:
Management Commitment and
Involvement.
Establishment of a Safety
Committee.
3. Safety Training.
4. First Aid procedures.
Accident investigation.
Record Keeping.
7. Safety Rules, Policies and
Procedures.
ED PAR`Y^'qNTAL ARTICLE
Greetings from the Community
Development Department! First
we'd like to welcome Ann
Rousseau, the latest addition
to our staff, and Chuck Geisz,
the new Building Inspector.
Talking about development, the
Department has expanded 400
square feet, which will be used
for the storage of departmental
records. Since the move into
the present building three
years ago, paperwork has grown
to the point of being stored in
cardboard boxes for the lack of
space or file cabinets!
No one will be happier than
Kathy Nappi, who handles
Contractor's Licensing. She is
currently the proud owner of a
mountain of filing to de done,
which will now be "housed" in
the new addition. Jan King,
filling the (fairly) new Zoning
Technician position, will also
be pleased to be able to find
records, maps and plats in
files and drawers rather than
rummaging around in boxes on
the floor.
With the new addition, Gerry
Kubes, Code Enforcement
Secretary, joins the "front
lines" with Ann and newly
promoted Suzi Bell to help
"customers" with any building
questions. Bob Nicholson,
Code Enforcement Officer, now
can find Gerry the minute he
walks into the office.
George Bonacci, Chief Building
Inspector and Bruce Cooper,
Director of community
Development outdid themselves
once again, making Secretaries
Day a special day. THANKS!
RECIPE FAVORITES
City employees will have
another outlet to vent their
creative talents. A City Hall
cookbook will be compiled in
the next few months and
distributed to employees.
ALL employees (meaning male and
female) and City Councilmembers
are encouraged to submit their
favorite recipe to Jean or
Sally in the City Manager's
office no later than September
3rd. Jean and Sally have
generously agreed to put their
time and talent to use in
coordinating, compiling (and
testing?) the recipes submitted
for the City Hall cookbook.
Awards will be given out at the
Christmas party for "THE BEST"
recipes. Send your recipe in!
