HANDICAPPED SELF-EVALUATION COMMITTEE
JANUARY 5, 1994
CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by John Kanfoush,
Chairman

Norma Damp - City Council Member
Mr. Kanfoush stated that he had invited Bruce Cooper to speak
on the handicapped parking issue and requested that he be
allowed to speak first on the agenda since he has another
meeting to attend.
2. COMMITTEE MEMBER ISSUES
Bruce Cooper, Director of Community Development, spoke on the
handicapped parking issue, as to how involved the committee
would like to get, and legally could get, with the community in
seeing that businesses conform to handicapped parking
regulations. Bruce suggested that maybe a form letter, along
with a copy of the Florida Statutes, could be issued to
businesses so that each business can determine how they can
best comply with ADA regulations. Discussion followed
regarding rules, regulations, compliance and enforcement of law.

3. NEW BUSINESS
Members of the Committee introduced themselves to Nancy Moody,
Guest Speaker from Parent To Parent of Indian River County an
Affiliate of Family Network on Disabilities.
Nancy Moody of Parent To Parent handed out brochures and
stated that the mission of this organization is to reaoh out
.and provide assistance to parents and other family members
who have children with disabilities by way of meetings,
lectures, discussion and interaction. A lengthy discussion
followed.
Mr. Kanfoush asked to be excused at approximately 6:00 p.m.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - NOVEMBER 3, 1993
Motion by Harry DiSalvio and seconded by Edra Young to approve
the minutes of November 3, 1993 as written.
5. OLD BUSINESS
STATUS OF LETTER SENT TO ST. LUCIE WASTE SERVICES
Wendy stated that the letter regarding trash pick-up for the
handicapped was sent out but no response has been received.
Edra Young brought up the subject of the Lifeline and how
expensive it is. What can be done to keep the costs down and
make it available to more people? Discussion followed.
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, February 2, 1994 at
5:00 p.m. with Carmen Carol from Lifeline as the guest
speaker.

Meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
