HomeMy WebLinkAbout03182002 HANDHANDICAPPED SELF-EVALUATION COMMITTEE Regular Meeting No. 02- 1 Monday, March 18, 2002 CiU Hall Conf~re~ Room CALL TO ORDER: 5:05 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present - Ms. Ackenm~ Mr. Bandrimcr, Mr. Miller, Ms. Fielding Absent- Mr. Desalvio - excused NEW BUSINESS: 1. Introduction of all members in attendance and 'the Director of Human Resources. Each told the others about themselves and their background. Nominatiom were accepted from the members for a Chairperson. A motion by Ms. Ackerman to nominate Mr. Delsalvio was entered and seconded by Mr. Bandrimer. Some discussion followed. Mr. Desalvio was not present to accept the nomination, but he was the Chairperson of the committee the last time they met. The members voted 4-0 to pass the motion with the understanding that Mr. Sexton would contact Mr. Desalvio to confirm his acceptance to the post. If Mr. Delsalvio rejected the appointment, then at the next meeting, other nominations would be accepted. Nominations were accepted from the members for a Vice-Chairperson- A motion by Mr. Miller to nominate MS. Fielding was entered and seconded by Ms. Ackerman. Ms. Fielding accepted the nomination- The motion passed 3- 0. Mr. Sexton gave a brief summary on the Sunshine Law and hoW it pertains to committee members. The Committee asked if Mr. Stringer, City Attorney, could provide a brief written summary regarding Committee activity and the Sunshine Law: Mr. Sexton said he would request the information. Goals and Objectives of the Committee were discussed. Mr. Sexton read Sections (1) ' and (2) of Resolution No. R-01-80. Overall, the theme of the Committee's concerns revolved around parking issues at Riverview Park, The Yacht Club, and The Barber Str~-t Sports Complex. a. Riverview Park - During large events, handicapped parking is inadequate. The Committee, individually, will visit the park during future events (Art Show, Band Concert, or equivalent) to determine if handicapped parking is access~le. b. The Yacht Club - Handicapped boat trailer parking. Cars are continuously parking illegally in the designated handicapped Irailer parking. The Committee, individually, win visit the Yacht Club during evening hours to observe. The Barber Street Sports COmplex- Inadequate number of handicapped parking spaces and poor marking of established spaces. The Committee, individually will visit the Complex on a Saturday, during the current Little League Season, to observe handicapped accessible parking. Summary of established site visits. Discussion regarding Committee members visiting the sites in pairs. Mr. Sexton stated he believed it would be a viohtion of the Sunshine Law for members to view the sites together. Mr. Sexton recommended that each member view the site individually, but would research the issue and get back to them as soon as possible. Committee directed Mr. Sexton to find out the regulation regarding the number of handicapped parking spaces that are mandatory. Are the numbers of handicapped spaces relative to the number of total parking spaces or rehtive to the number of people that may occupy a building at any given time? Mr. Sexton stated he would research it and get back to them Mr. Sexton was directed to provide a list of City parks and their locations at the next meeting. Ms. Fielding made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Ackenmn seconded the motion. Motion passed 4 - O. Meeting Adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
