UPDATE OF BARBER STREET SPORTS COMPLEX: Richard Votapka,
Public Works Director, has been working on getting the
pavement at the Sports Complex completed to the satisfaction
of everyone involved. A plan of the complex, with details of
the proposed pavement, driveway, bleachers and drainage plans,
was presented to the committee for their review. The
committee was very pleased with the plan and, hopefully, this
project will be completed in August. A van accessible parking
spot was requested for the complex and will be included.

Richard also gave the committee an update on other handicapped
accessibility projects still pending at City Hall. The
restroom entrances need to be enlarged, the conference room table
needs to be made accessible for wheelchairs, either by building
it up with blocks or cutting out a section. Discussion followed
on what would be the best option.
Motion by Catherine Ackerman and seconded by John Kanfoush to try
building up the table with blocks first. Voice vote taken - all
in favor.
Discussion followed regarding fixing the sidewalks and benches in
Riverview Park and the boardwalk at the Yacht Club.
UPDATE OF PROPOSED ORDINANCE-ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING BOARD:
This project is still being reviewed by the City Attorney and
the status will be looked into by Council member Norma Damp.
UPDATE ON JULY FOURTH HANDICAP PARKING: A memo has been sent
to John Malek notifying him of our decision hoping to have Harrison
Street designated as handicap parking. When final plans are
made they will be advertised in the Press Journal.
4. NEW BUSINESS;
NEW REFUSE CONTRACT-HANDICAP SERVICES: This service will be
provided by the new refuse service. Discussion followed on
how this will be accomplished.

useful in applying for grants for the city parks, etc.

MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 7, 1995
TO: Wendy Widmann, Human Resources Director
FROM: Richard Votapka, Public Works Director ~
SUBJECT: Improvements for Handicapped Citizens on City Owned
Facilities
I am pleased to report that Mike Whitney and Paul St. Pierre of the.
City's Sign Shop have completed repainting the parking spaces and
international handicap symbols at the following locations as of
this date:
1) Yacht Club
2) Community Center
3) Police Station
4) City Hall
5) Barber Street Sports Complex
6) Utilities Building
Also, the preliminary plan for the center core concrete walkway for
the Barber Street Sports Complex has been completed. I reviewed the
plan with Nancy Diamond, President of the Sebastian River Area
Little League, and she was very pleased. I am submitting the plan
(with the proposed improvements marked in red) to you so that the
Handicapped Self Evaluation Committee will have the opportunity to
review and comment on it. Please return the plan to me as soon as
possible as the final grades must be designed for proper drainage.
Nancy Diamond suggested that the Public Works Department schedule
the work to be done for the month of August since Little League Ail
Star games end in July and the soccer games do not begin until
September.
