HANDICAPPED SELF-EVALUATION COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 6, 1993
1. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Wendy Widmann,
City of Sebastian Personnel Director and Coordinator of
Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

Phillip Foster
Joanne Sandberg - Secretary
Absent:
Susan Nalepa (unexcused)
Bea Thibault (excused)
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - July 29, 1993
Motion by Harry DiSalvio and seconded by Edra Young to
accept the minutes of July 29, 1993 as written.
Voice Vote - all in favor.
COMMITTEE MEMBER ISSUES
A. Introduction of Phillip Foster, new member, to all committee
members present. Wendy gave him a overview of committee
functions, priorities and goals.
B. St. Lucie Waste (Discussion tabled from last meeting)
Edra Young stated her concerns and comments relating to St.
Lucie Waste picking up trash for the handicapped who are
not able to put their trash out by the curb. St. Lucie
Waste does have special pick-up if they are notified by a
Doctor that a person needs special assistance.

Mrs. Young feels there should be more specific written
instructions and rules for this special pick-up.
A lengthy discussion followed with requests for possible
City Council involvement.
Motion by John Kanfoush and seconded by Harry DiSalvio to
have a City Council member coordinate with St. Lucie Waste
a request to submit guidelines for handicapped procedures
regarding trash pickup.
Voice vote - all in favor.
4. OLD BUSINESS
A. POSSIBLE NAME CHANGE FOR COMMITTEE
Discussionfollowed with "Handicapped Self-Evaluation
Committee of Sebastian" being the preferred name. This
name change must be presented to City Council for approval.
B. ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON FOR THE COMMITTEE
Nomination of John Kanfoush for Chairperson of the
Handicapped Self-Evaluation Committee by Edra Young and
seconded bY Harry DiSalvio.
Voice vote - all in favor
Mr. Kanfoush accepted this nomination.
C. CITY HALL RAMP
Discussion was held regarding the drawing of the proposed
ramp to City Hall on the West side of the building. The
possibility and price of a elevator to the second floor
was also discussed.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. Self EvaluatiOn'Reports and Feedback
Wendy updated the committee on what has been accomplished
on evaluation of City property and handed out pamphlets on
self evaluation plans, procedures and feedback.
Discussion followed with a request for committee members
to review pamphlets and plans and come back to the next
meeting with priority requests, ideas and suggestions.

Motion was made by John Kanfoush and seconded by Harry
DiSalvio to make City Hall the first priority and the
Community Center the second goal.
Voice Vote - all in favor
6. ADJOURN
Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 3, 1993 at
5:00 p.m. in the City Manager's Conference Room.
Meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
