HomeMy WebLinkAboutUndated Overall EvaluationBLOSSOM DITCH: OVERALL EVALUATION The properties along the Blossom Ditch incorporate a 20' drainage right of way, inside the rear property lines for a length of 2300'. The ditch was originally contained within this 20' R.O.W. However, with the passage of time, the banks have eroded back between 5' and 15' out of the drainage R.O.W. causing problems (some severe) for residents with structures along this ditch line. Structures Include pools, decks, garage, and fences located outside of the drainage R.O.W. The flow line of the Blossom Ditch has eroded the toe of the slope causing the ditch banks to erode back out of the R.O.W. This condition has elevated the flow line 12" to 24" above the design elevation, causing the lateral ditches running into the Blossom Ditch to hold 12" to 24" more water than originally Intended. This in turn has raised the water table In this area, hindering front swale drainage. It is my recommendation that we (the City) restore the ditch banks back to their original location and the flow line back to it's original elevation. I feel the City could possibly be liable for damages to structures located along the Blossom Ditch due to erosion. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 35' Flowline = 8' to 10' Wide 1179 Moderate erosion, moderate to heavy vegetation. Homeowner has ornamental shrubs along top of ditch. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 30' Flowline = 12' Wide 1 -LOT Moderate erosion, light vegetation, top of bank. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 30' Flowline = 10' Wide 1167 Moderate erosion, heavy vegetation. Homeowner has ornamental shrubs. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 30' Flowline = 10' Wide 4 -LOTS Moderate erosion, light vegetation. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 35' to 40' Flowline = 10' to 12' Wide 1131 Moderate erosion, moderate vegetation. Top Of Bank To Top Of Bank = 30' Flowline = 13' Wide 1125 Moderate to severe erosion, pool deck elevation is approximately 9' above ditch flowline and erosion extends back to corners of the pool deck.
