CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS 1225 MAIN STREET, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA Chairman McCollum called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance, led by Irene Irene Traficante. ROLL CALL: Present: Nathan McCollum George Schum Lonnie Powell Irene Trafficanti Excused: Eugene Doty Robert McClary Clifford Hoose APPROVE MINUTES OF AUGUST 30, 1988: MOTION made by George Schum, seconded by Lonnie Powell, to accept the August 30th Minutes as presented. All in favor. OLD BUSINESS: A) Swimming Classes in the Sebastian area- Due to lack of swimming areas, this will be referred to Clifford Hoose to refer to North County Recreation. B) Christmas Parade - George Schum recommended Jo Kelley assist Sally Maio with the Christmas parade and proceeded to call her at that time. After his conversation with Jo, he advised the committee that she had agreed to assist Sally with the parade. 1 s It was also voted that there be only one Santa in the parade and that would be left up to the parade organizers. C) Port -O -Lets - MOTION made by Lonnie Powell/George Schum, to add the Port -O -Lets to the Agenda. Motion carried. D) Toilets for Yacht Club - MOTION was made by George Schum to put the toilets on the left side of the yacht club. Motion was not seconded; motion died. MOTION made by George Schum, seconded by Irene Trafficanti, to approve above motion with the inclusion that if that space is not suitable, do whatever the city wants to do. Motion carried. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS: A) COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE REPORT North County Recreation Park on AlA.is moving right along and all parcels of land are now being bargained for. B� NORTH COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE REPORT None. C) RECREATION COORDINATOR'S REPORT None. CHAIRMAN'S MATTERS: Nate McCollum gave a budget report. He also gave a thank you to Mayor Votapka for his idea for a banquet for board members. NEW BUSINESS: MOTION by Lonnie Powell to send a memo to the City Manager requesting the use of all unused money from 187-88 budget be placed in the 188-89 budget for the Barber Street Complex. No second, motion died. George Schum reported that Dockside builders are a licensed Davit builders and that they would be happy to come down to take a look at what we have. Rough cost at this time is $1750.00. A Terry Wildie would donate cable for the lift. More information to come later. Irene Traficante reported that she has heard that City Council wants to revise all the Committees, as to their background and the number of years entitled to serve on the committees, as some of the members have been on committees too long. Chairman McCollum stated that three (3) years, then a break, was a possibility. However, as of right now he further stated, no decisions have been made; the present ruling calls for all committees having five plus 2 alternatives. At the present time, 2 this committee has 6 plus 1. Nate McCollum said he would report any decisions as he receives notice of them. Discussion of swimming classes in the Sebastian area. Due to lack of swimming areas, this will be referred to Clifford Hoose to refer to North County Recreation. Discussion on an assistant for Sally Maio to help with the Christmas parade. George Schum suggested Jo Kelley for the job and proceeded to call her at that time. After his conversation with Jo Kelley he advised the carmittee that she had agreed to assist Sally with the parade. Also it was voted on that there should only be one Santa in the parade and that would be left up to the parade organizers. Motion by Lonnie Powell, seconded by George Schum to add the Port -0 - Lets to the agenda. Motion Carried. Motions George Schum: We put the toliets on the left side of the yacht club. Motion George Schurn seconded Irene Traficanti, for the city to check into the Ameriquatic Spraying in the city's canals and find out why there is so much growth in the canals. Motion Carried. Lonnie Powell: Motion by Lonnie Powell to send a memo to the City Manager to see if we can use all unused money frau 87-88 budget and put this money into the 88-89 budget for the Barber Street Complex.
