The Pledge of Allegiance was said. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: ALSO PRESENT: VC Cathy Fulton Ch. Ann.BraCk, Recording Secretary John Almada, Advisor (11/6/00) MOTION by Davies/Cardinale I make a motion that the minutes of November 6th be approved as presented. · A voice vote was taken. 5 - 0, motion cerried. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Chmn. Cardinale introduced new member Larry Bimhmeyer. NEW BUSINESS: B. SHADE HOUSE OPERATIONS Chmn. Cardinale explained the Shade House Operations to Mr. Birchmeyer, Anne Dann noted that the cypress plants need to be taken out of pots and planted in the open. Board members volunteered for seedling cere for the next three monthS as follows: March - Cathy Fulton April Ruth Davies May Lynn Albury A. PLANS FOR ARBOR DAY There was discussion about the donation of $150.00 from Macho Products toward prizes for the Arbor Day Celebration. The Recording Secretary will check with the Finance Dept. about what donations have been received for Arbor Day. TREE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF JANUARY 8, 2001 There was discussion about Wendy Quick from Mid-West Research speaking on Arbor Day, and when and where she would give her presentation. It was noted that Dan Culbert and Ralph Brown will be part of this presentation. Speakers for the ceremony were discussed. It was then agreed to take a short break to attempt to contact Beverly T. Bell. The break was from 5:5 to 6:05 pm., and all members previously present returned. Beverly Bell arrived at 6:03 pm. Beverly provided the following information: Speakers: Terrence Moore, City Manager Walter Barnes, Mayor Carolyn Ginn, Chmn., County Commission Joel Tyson, KIRB Ray Coniglio, Pres., Sebastian Chamber of Commerce Roland DeBIois, Environmental Engineer, Indian River County The following speakers will give their presentation in Council Chambers after the outdoor ceremony: Wendy Quick, Mid-West Research Ralph Brown, St. John's River Water Management District Dan Culbert, Agricultural Extension Service (Tree Board members will contact the above speakers to remind them of their commitment the week before the ceremony.) Refreshments: Trudy Hertling from the Pelican Island Garden Club Location: It was determined to perform the ceremony on the front steps of the main City Hall building. Furnishings: It was determined that Chris should supply three (3) long tables and fifty (50) chairs. SoUnd equipment from the Golf Course will be available, and a podium and generator can be made available if necessary. The Arbor Day flag and stand will be made available. Trees: Chris reported that nineteen (19) trees are being ordered, 5 live oaks, 3 Ioblolly bay, 3 red bay, 3 red maples, and 5 yaupon holly. The live oaks Will be pretty big, 25 to 30 gallon size. Every{hing else will be 15 gallon material. They will be planted to the east and the rear of the main building. Chris also noted that he will be out of town at that time, but a couple of his employees will be there. TREE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF jANUARY 8, 2001 There was discussion of an irrigation system and Chris commented that it is being worked on. He noted that the cost of this landscaping is part of the Main Street Improvement program. Chron. Cardinale volunteered to handle press coverage. It was suggested that all of the speakers and principals of the ceremony should receive a reminder phone call dUring the week before the event, Several Board members split the list for this project. Presentation of Colors: Bevedy noted that she received no response.from the VFW or the American Legion, VC Fulton agreed to contact the Finance Dept. to get information on donations; She will also contact the VFW and American Legion. Anne Dann agreed to contact St. Elizabeth's about the invocation. If she has no luck, Chris will contact Rev. Thomas at the Methodist Church. Sequence of events of the ceremony was discussed including release of the color gUard, Lynn Albury showed some of the Arbor Day posters done by the school children, and there was discussion about the prizes for winners, There was also discussion about release forms for winners names to be published. John Almada reminded the Board to inform Janice Broda of the time and date of the Arbor Day Ceremony, MOTION by Dann/Fulton I move that the money from Macho Industries, $150.00, be distributed as prize to the winners of the poster contest at Lynn's discretion, Roll call: Ch. Appreciation Certificates: Communications: - yes VC Fulton - yes - yes Anne Dann -yes - yes It was determined that Joe Collins with the- Scouts, George Anderson from the High School Academy, and the Florida Yards program should receive appreciation certificates. Chmn. Cardinale will take care of newspaper coverege in the Press Journal, Sebastian Sun, Florida Today, and the City web site. The letter of invitation was also edited, At this point, Chmn, Cardinale noted that Shirley Kilkelly will bring coffee plants to be handed out.
