This specification applies to high density polyethylene corrugated pipe with an
integrally formed smooth waterway. Nominal sizes for which this specification is
applicable are 4 - 48 inch diameter. Sizes 4 - 36 inch (N-12) shall have a full circular
cross-section, with an outer corrugated pipe wall and an essentially smooth inner wall
(waterway). Corrugations for these sizes may be either annular or spiral. Sizes 42 and
48 inch (N-12 HC) shall consist of an essentially smooth waterway braced
circumferentially with circular ribs which are formed simultaneously with an essentially
smooth outer wall. All sizes shall conform to the AASHTO classification "Type D"
(which describes pipe with a smooth waterway).
Pipe manufactured for this specification shall comply with the requirements for test
methods, dimensions, and markings found in AASHTO Designations M252 and M294.
Pipe and fittings shall be made from virgin PE compounds which conform with the
requirements of cell class 324420C as defined and described in ASTM D3350.
The minimum parallel plate stiffness values when tested in accordance with ASTM
D2412 shall be as follows:

The fittings shall not reduce or impair the overall integrity or function of the pipe line.
Fittings may be either molded or fabricated. Common corrugated fittings include in-line
joint fittings, such as couplers and reducers, and branch or complimentary assembly
fittings such as tees, wyes, and end caps. These fittings may be installed by various
methods, such as snap -on, screw -on, bell and spigot, and wrap around. Couplings shall
provide sufficient longitudinal strength to preserve pipe alignment and prevent
separation at the joints. Only fittings supplied or recommended by the pipe
manufacturer shall be used. Where designated on the plans, a neoprene or rubber
gasket shall be supplied.
Installation of the pipe specified above shall be in accordance with ASTM
Recommended Practice D2321 as covered elsewhere in these specifications.

AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe in sizes
4" through 64" is manufactured in accor-
dance with and meets or exceeds all
applicable requirements of AWWA C151
Standard for "Ductile Iron Pipe,
Centrifugally Cast, for Water or Other
Liquids."
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe, with
Fastite or mechanical joints, complies with
AWWA C151 and the joints meet require-
ments of AWWA C111. The outside
diameters of 4"-48" are the same as for
gray iron pipe that was formerly manufac-
tured per AWWA C106 or C108, making
ductile iron pipe completely interchange-
able with gray iron pipe with respect to
joints, accessories and fittings.
The installation of ductile iron pipe is
covered in AWWA C600, including
instructions for the assembly of push -on
and mechanical joint pipe. See Section 2
of this Pipe Manual for detailed assembly
instructions for Fastite and Mechanical
Joint pipe.
The nominal laying length of the pipe
is as shown in tables in this Section. A
maximum of 20 per cent of the total
number of pipe of each size specified in
an order may be furnished as much as
24" shorter than the nominal laying
length, and an additional 10 per cent may
be furnished as much as 6" shorter than
nominal laying length.
Dimensions
The plain end, the socket of the pipe,
and the accessories are gaged at suffi-
ciently frequent intervals to assure that
the dimensions comply with the require-
ments of AWWA C151.

AMERICAN Linings
for Pipe and Fittings
The principal standard covering cement lining is ANSI/AWWA C104/A21.4. This
and other standards are referenced throughout'this Section either by the full
ANSI/AWWA designation or by only the AWWA numbering, such as AWWA C104.
Along with technical and metallurgi-
cal advancement in piping materials,
research on lining requirements for pipe
and fittings has resulted in the develop-
ment of linings to meet many different
service requirements. AMERICAN offers
several types of linings, the most common
being cement lining.
Pipe and fittings furnished by AMER-
ICAN are offered unlined or with linings
as follows:
1. Cement Lined per AWWA C104.
2. Asphaltic Lined per AWWA C110,
C115, C151, or C153.
*3. Polybond Lined - AMERICAN'<
polyethylene lining.
*4. Coal Tar Epoxy Lined - resin and
tar combination.
5. Special Lining - for unusual service
conditions.
Tolybond and Coal Tar Epoxy are for speck service
conditions and their usage should be restricted accordingly.
Cement Lining6 U» 16f 177 Alf)
Cement -mortar lining forr-d ttte-ircm-
pipe and fittings for water service is in
accordance with ANSI/AWWA
C104/A21.4
Cement -lined pipe is also furnished
for sewage service and a number of other
applications. In fact, most pipe furnished
is cement lined, providing improved flow
characteristics and the required protection
against internal corrosion. The cement lin-
ing is satisfactory for temperatures nor-
mally encountered in water and in sewage
service and the asphaltic seal coat is ade-
quate for temperatures up to 150°F; for
other services contact AMERICAN regard-
ing abilities and limitations of cement lining.
The first recorded installation of
cement -lined gray iron pipe was in 1922
at Charleston, S.C. This lining was devel-
oped by the Charleston Commission of
Public Works in cooperation with
American Cast Iron Pipe Company. Since
this beginning, AMERICAN has furnished
most of its pipe with cement lining. The
lining is applied centrifugally with speed
of rotation and vibration designed to pro-
duce a smooth waterway surface, free
from voids and yet retaining enough
moisture for proper curing.
—Ftoaton cement -lined pipe under
varying service conditions have established
that the Hazen -Williams flow coefficient
remains as expected at about 140.
Handling Cement -Lined Pipe and
Fittings
Pipe and fittings with cement lining
should be handled with rubber covered
hooks or other type equipment to prevent
damage to the cement lining. Bare fork lift
arms or bare hooks should not be inserted
into open ends.
Characteristics of Cement Lining
AWWA C104 allows for surface craz-
ing and cracks of a specified nature and
magnitude. Occasionally cracks and loose-
ness in linings may occur prior to installa-
tion, particularly where pipe is stored for a
considerable time. Many years' experience
with cement -lined pipe and fittings has
verified that this condition is in no way
detrimental to the performance and effec-
tiveness of the lining.
When a cement -lined pipe is placed
in service and filled with water, two reac-
tions begin immediately. The first is a
gradual elimination of the temperature

Standard Pressure Classes
ILI
Pressure classes are defined as the rated water working pressure of the pipe in psi. The thicknesses shown are ade-
quate for the rated water working pressure plus a surge allowance of 100 psi. Calculations result in net thicknesses and
are based on a minimum yield strength in tension of 42,000 psi and 2.0 safety factor times the sum of working pressure
and 100 psi surge allowance.
Thickness can be calculated for rated water working pressure and surges other than the above byuse of equation 1 in
ANSI/AWWA C150/A21.50.
AMERICAN ductile iron pipe is available for water working pressures greater than 350 psi. Check AMERICAN for
details.
These are standard pressure classes as given in AWWA C150 and C151. AMERICAN can furnish any thickness in
between these standard thicknesses if deemed economical for major projects.
AMERICAN ductile iron pipe is also available with thicknesses greater than Pressure Class 350. See Table No. 3-12.

1. Clean the socket and plain end. Lubricate
gasket and plain end with soapy water (or
approved pipe lubricant meeting AWWA C111)
just prior to slipping gasket onto plain end for
assembly. Place the gland on the plain end
with the lip extension toward the plain end,
followed by the gasket with the narrow edge of
the gasket toward the plain end.
Uni-Flange Series 1400 Installation Instructions
2. Insert the pipe into the socket and press
the gasket firmly and evenly into the gasket
recess. Keep the joint straight during assembly.
3. Push the gland toward the socket and
center it around the pipe with the gland lip
against the gasket. Insert T -bolts and hand
tighten nuts. Make deflection after joint
assembly but before tightening bolts (max.
deflection is 5°).
4. Tighten the T -bolts to the same torque
recommended in AWWA C111 (75-90 ft. lbs.
In 4" - 24" sizes, 100-120 ft. lbs. In
30" - 36" sizes). Tighten in an alternating
manner, (12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock, 3
o'clock) maintaining the same gap between
the gland and the face of the MJ bell at all
points around the socket. Repeat the
process until all bolts are within the approxi-
mate torque range. Use of a torque wrench
is recommended.
5. After correct assembly of the mechanical
joint, bring all wedges in contact with the
pipe surface by turning the Auto-Tork
actuating screws in a clockwise direction
until contact is made and screw is "hand
tight"
6. Tighten each Auto-Tork actuating screw by
turning approximately 180 degrees in a
clockwise direction, alternating between
screws until the break away heads twist off.
Never turn a single head over 180 degrees
without alternating to another screw.
Note: The Series 1400 can be re -used or re -installed after the auto-tork screw heads have
been twisted off. In this case, tighten the hex head of the wedge activating screw to 85 ft. lbs.
