IN THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS. a AFTER THE ADJOURNMENT OF THEIR REGULARMEETING THE BOARD MEMBERS WILL MEET AT THE BARBER STREET SPORTS COMPLEX TO DISCUSS HOW THEY CAN PROTECT TREES FROM ACCIDENTLY BEING RUN OVER AND VANDALISM. ~AWN M. ON SEPTEMBER 11 IS TREE MAINTENANCE MANUAL AND THE FIELD CARDS WILL BE LOOKED AT BY CITY COUNCIL AND HOPEFULLY, APPROVED. MR. MASSARELLI WILL BE PRESENT AND WELCOMES ANY BOARD MEMBERS, ALSO. SHE WAS GOING TO GO BACK AND ) THEM AGAIN AND MS. KILKELLY THOUGHT THAT SHE SHOULD 2K TO LOUISE TO SEE IF ANYTHING FURTHER HAS DEVELOPED. L NEED THEM FOR POSSIBLY POTTING PLANTS WHEN ~ TREES UNG. [AN CECRLE NOTED THAT IF UTILIZING THE SCOUTS TO DO WORK SITE, ALL INSURANCES MUST BE CHECKED INTO, BOTH WITH THE rD THE SCOUTS. THIS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE PRESENTATION k"r MONTH. .AN FOR PARTS DEPARTMENT FOR TREE, U.S.A. APPLICATIONS STATUS tOTED THAT THIS REPORT MUST WAIT TILL AFTER TI-IE NEXT HEARING. THE APPLICATION NEEDS TO BE SIGNED SINCE WE NO LONGER HAVE AN URBAN FORESTER AVAILABLE. MR. MASSARELLI NOTED THAT THEP~ MUST BE AN URBAN FORESTER SIGNATURE ON THE APPLICATION, AND IT WAS AGREED THAT ONE COULD PROBABLY BE OBTAINED FROM BREVARD COUNTY. CHAIRMAN CECKLE DIRECTED DAWN, THE SECRETARY TO OBTAIN THE NAME OF THE GENTLEMAN IN JACKSONVILLE WHO COULD GIVE US MORE INFORMATION ON THIS APPLICATION. ,NEw BUSHV s,s , PROPOSED ART COMPETITION FOR AREA SCHOOLS FOR PUBLIC AWARE~SS OF TREES. ANNE PUTMAN RECEIVED PERMISSION FROM FROM KATHRYN A. WILSON, ASSISTANT SLrPEKINTENDENT FOR OPERATIONS FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, TO DISTRIBUTE ART CONTEST FLYERS TO STUDENTS AT EACH SCHOOL DISCUSSION TOOK PLACE ON THE TIMING OF THIS PROGRAM, METHOD OF SELECTING WINNERS, PRIZES, SPONSORSHIP, AND JUDGES. IT WAS DETERMINED TO WORK UP A PLAN FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED ACTIVITIES AND PRESENT IT AT THE NEXT MEETING. NATIONAL TREE TRUST APPLICATION. BOB MASSARELLi NOTED THAT HE WAS WORKING WITH sHIRLEy KILKELLY ON THIS AND WOULD GET IT ON THE AGENDA FOR SEPTEMBER 25TH CITY COUNCIL MEETING, FOR ENDORSEMENT AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO FILE THE APPLICATION FOR 400 TREES. THESE TREES WILL BE DELIVERED BARE-ROOTED WITH CONTAINERS, AND ALL MUST BE POTTED FOR FUTURE PLANTING. PROTECTING EXISTING TREES IN THE MEDIAN AREAS OF THE BARBER,STREET COMPLEX. CHRIS NOTED THAT BECAUSE MONEY IN THE BUDGET IS VERY LOW AT PRESENT, MINIMAL ACTION CAN BE TAKEN IN THIS MATTER. HE THOUGHT CARL'S IDEA OF PLACING BOULDERS AROUND THE TREES WAS A GOOD ONE, AND STATED THAT HE DIDN'T THINK THAT MANY TREES WERE INVOLVED. CHRIS MENTIONED THAT HE COULD OBTAIN SOME BOULDERS FREE FOR THIS PURPOSE. THE BOARD AGREED TO GO TO THE SITE AFTER THE MEETING AND CHECK IT OUT. DONN,~ MENTIONED THE MASTEK GARDENER PROGRAM, AND INFORMED THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT WORK ON THE TREE BOARD MAY CONSTITUTE THAT WE QUALIFY FOR THE PAY-BACK COMMUNITY WORK. TREE ADVISORY BOARD R~L~R MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 9, 1~}96 STAFF, BOB MASSARELLi REPORTED ON I-liS RESEARCH ON AWARD PROGRAMS IN THE CITY. HE NOTED THAT TIlE CITY MANAGER, MR. FRAME, SUGGESTED THAT THE BOARD TRY TO GET A GROUP LIKE THE PELICAN ISLAND GARDEN CLUB OR A SIMILAR ORGANIZATION TO SPONSOR A PROGRAM LIKE THIS. SALLY GORE ATTENDED THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMITTEES I-IRS PRESENTATION. SHE SUGGESTED THAT WHEN THE LANDSCAPE AND TREE ORDINANCES GET ALTERED, SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE HOME-OWNER HAVE AN OPTION THAT FOR A NOMINAL FEE, ALTERNATIVES ARE AVAILABLE, THROUGH THE BUILDER AND HRS, FOR THE SEPTiC TANK PLACEMENT SO THAT PARTICULAR TREES MAY BE SAVED, SHE SUGGESTED THIS iixrFORMATION BE INCLUDED IN THE PACKET THAT THE HOME-OWNER RECEIVES.
