Concerning the mayor's specific question the following are the answers. Hector A. Franco City Engineer 1) FDOT operation center at Fort Lauderdale is still reviewing the project. As of today, Mr. W. Lewis's letter points out that a small change has to be made to the signal design and a permit application is needed. County Traffic Engineer, Michael Orr, will take care of this change. In addition, there will be required changes on turning lanes and a detailed cross section of the Schumann Drive -U.S. High- way #1 intersection. A roadway alteration permit needs to be filled in. The city will take care of that part. 2) All the Engineering is completed for this project except for the above minor changes. 3) So far the only money spent is the county preliminary design cost of $206.71. 4) FDOT at Fort Lauderdale has only two (2) Engineers to review all the projects coming to this district according to the information provided by them. Right now, the project is a little behind schedule. Mr. Michael Orr estimates the completion date to be around June instead of January or February 1987 (see Mr. Orr's letter dated March 13, 1986. He points out past experiences shows him the FDOT is six (6) months behind schedule in most cases. ; Finally under the Departments Equipment Procuremed program for FY86-87 the equipment was ordered from Tallahassee last month. In response to your questions concerning the proper course of action in obtaining approval for lengthening storage lanes on S.R. 5, we recommend that you contact Ms. Coe at Suncom 421-1310. Pole B and the span have been relocated and the stop bar for the westbound approach moved back to provide forty feet of distance to signal head 8. In addition, traffic counts obtained for both AM and PM peaks with their left -turn analyses are enclosed as jusitification for the State Road 5 left -turn phases. We have reviewed your plans and have two comments, as follows: • Pole A should be moved north in order to develop the minimum 40 feet distance from the east stop bar to signal head 8 & 2. • Traffic volumes on file in this office do not indicate a justification for more than two phases at this intersection. Mr. Toufic Khayat of this office will contact you to confirm your request for signal equipment as soon as this Fiscal Year's money is confirmed.
