All Intermatic photo controls are weatherproof, fail safe, and factory tested. They are also maintenance free and compact in size. Many Intermatic photo con-rols feature all -sonic welded polycarbonate cases and lenses Sonic welding eliminates the use of rivets, gaskets, se :tants and adhesives. Delayed ; nd instantaneous response controls Both delay -d (thermal) and instantaneous (relay) types of Intermatic photo controls are designed for long service life and ease c - installation. The delayed response thermal type control consists of a light-sensitive cadmium sulfide (CBS) photocell operating a positive acting bimetallic switch. The photocell has a wide operating range for stable operation. The bimetallic switch prevents unwanted operation caused by stray light flashes. The instantaneous relay type control consists of a CdS photocell operating a relay to switch the load. This assures repeated response to ambient light levels. Contact arcing is minimized, and relay chatter is eliminated. 5 year warranty for most models. Fixed position, swivel mounting or locking type mounting, Intermatic has what you need in many models, most with a 5 -year warranty. It can also be used for two -wire services up to 175VAC. Two SDSA1175 Second- ary Surge Arresters can be installed to provide protection on 208Y/120VAC three-phase four - wire services. This secondary surge arrester will protect most secondary distribution wiring systems against surge -related damage but may not protect solid state or electronic equipment from all lightning induced or other large power surges. This secondary surge arrester is suitable for in- door or outdoor installation. INSTALLATION 1. Turn OFF all power to the electrical equipment where the secondary surge arrester will be installed. 2. Open door and/or remove cover from the equipment. For maximum surge protection, choose a location for the secondary surge arrester (A) which allows leads (B) to be kept as short as possible. 3. Remove nut (C). NOTE: The electrical system must be properly grounded for the secondary surge arrester to work correctly. Have a qualified person with training in the operation and maintenance of electrical power systems install the surge ar- rester. Make sure the electrical system is grounded in accordance with Article 250 of the National Electrical Code. ACAUTION: Megger, high-voltage, or.hi- pot tests will damage this secondary surge arrester. Disconnect all power from the electrical equipment and isolate secondary surge arrester before testing. Figure 1 MS1139A.0 1 48040-989.02 REV. 4/93 ®1993 SQUARE D COMPANY. All rights reserved. 6. See Figure 4. For maximum surge protection, it is important to keep wires as short as pos- sible while avoiding sharp bends. Cutwiresfor minimum length needed and strip insulation from ends of wires. Connection of wires must be made by an approved method. Connect white wire to equipment neutral. Connectblack wires to appropriate equipment phase termi- nals. This can include connections to separate lugs, connections to a branch circuit breaker that has terminals suitable for use with #14 AWG wire, or other connection methods ac- ceptable by the National Electrical Code or local electrical inspection authority. 7. Install cover and/or close door on the equip- ment. 8. Turn ON power to the electrical equipment.
