Dear Ms. McNeely,
The City of Sebastian applied for and was recently awarded a Stan Mayfield Working
Waterfront grant. The grant will enable the City to purchase property that will be utilized to
restore a working fish house and to create an adjacent museum that focuses on the history
of commercial fishing and the rich, cultural heritage of this area.
The City of Sebastian is in full support of the Florida Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Services' Bureau of Seafood and Aquaculture's grant proposal to the National
Endowment for Humanities for an implementation project, Florida's Fishing Traditions:
Interpreting the Historical Sebastian and Indian River Lagoon Working Waterfront.
The proposed educational and interactive diorama that will simulate stages and lifestyles of
the early fishing industry and the culture that transpired will be an important contribution to
our goal to educate the public about our heritage. If this grant is awarded, our staff will be
happy to assist in the implementation of the project.
