Planning and Zoning Board
of Sebastian, Florida
~. O. Box 2287
Delray Beach, FL. 33447
April 17, 1989
Ladies and Gentlemen,
A number of years ago the City Planner designated an area for a road
that would run South from Main Street to 512 along a continuation
of Cross Street that is located just East of the City Hall pro-
perty. Today another location has become available and deserves
your consideration. This location is immediately West of the
Post Office and could be called Powerline Road.
About three years ago, the City was concerned about the amount
of truck traffic that would be created with the development of
the 312 acres of land Northwest of the City Hall and the traffic
that would follow from the residents of the development.
A meeting of representatives from the Florida Power and Light
Co., Southern Bell, the County Read Department, the School
Board, General Development Corp., the City and Me agreed that
there was a need for this road and that the right of way would
be made available to the City at no cost. Mr. Thornton, who
owns 56 acres adjoining Powerline Road, later said he would
give his p~rtion of the right of way.
Since then the School Board has constructed the South 500 feet
of Powerline Road and possibly could be persuaded to continue
the paving to Orange Ave. as they usethe right of way to get
to some of their facilities at the East end of Orange Ave.
Additionally, Florida Power add Light Co. might like to make a
contribution so they would not have to maintain a way to service
their substation and high wires. We all know that the Post
Office had to use a tent at the back of the building at Christ-
mas time so it would appear that they might be exp~nding in the
near future and would construct the north 600 feet of Powerline
Road so their heavy trucks could come in from the West side.
This would be no problem as I have already given the City the
North 1300 feet of the right of way that is 100 feet wide.
It should also be noted that the City also needs Powerline Road
so that it can continue to clear the large ditch just East of
the houses and lots 6n Columbus Street.
You now have the School Board, Florida Power and Light Co. and
the City of Sebastian using this right of way and needing a street
in this location and there will be a much greater need when
the Julian property is developed so I ask you to have Powerllne
Road substituted for the Cross Street location.
Very truly yours,
