A resolution at the final City Council meeting of the year has asked the state to pick up the

The city recognized All Board Florida's intention to construct
Orlando along the FEC tracks. And although no stops are envisioned in
increase railroad traffic and traffic noise in the city," the resolution

Since there are 10 railroad crossings affected along the FEC tracks in city limits,
who live or work close to the tracks would be significantly affected by the noise of the trains
their horn" if no quiet zones are designated, the resolution said.
Upgrading the crossings is estimated to cost $250,000 or more each. So "the city is requesting the state
of Florida fund the necessary improvements," the resolution said.
Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie, who is chairwoman of the Palm Beach County
Organization, wanted to get this on the record and sent a copy to Gov. Rick Scott and Jeff
state's chief financial officer. She estimated the total cost at about $6.6 million.
"Many municipalities couldn't afford these improvements," she

It turns out County Commissioner Steven Abrams, who represents
former Boca Raton mayor doesn't want municipalities picking up the tab, either.
"I raised that issue at a joint meeting between the county commission and legislative delegation," said
Abrams, chairman of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, which operates Tri Rail. "I
would like the state to consider picking up the balance, so we're making progress for
funding.''
The crossings will have to be retrofitted, and each crossing is different, Abrams
traffic engineers in the towns that will be affected.
"It helps Tri Rail's efforts to extend coastal service to have quiet zones in place," he said in a
interview.
His district also includes Boca Del Mar. But Abrams doesn't expect residents there to be bothered
