NOTES 1. A temporary Jumper connection Is required at all connections
between existing activF water mains and proposed new water
main improvements.
2. The Temporary Jumper detail (W-12A) is to he used for filling
any new water main of any size from the existing active water
mains and for the flushing of new mains up to 6' diameter
(2.5 FPS minimum velocity) and for pulling bacteriotogicul samples from
from any new water main of any size.
3. The Jumper connection shalt be molntatried until after the
filling, flushing, testing and disinfection of the new moln has been
successfully completed and clearance For use from the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and other
pertinent agencles has been received. Adequate thrust
blocking and/or restraints shalt be provided temporarily, as
required.
4. Pipe and fittings used for connecting the new pipe
to the existing pipe shall be disinfected prior to Installation
In accordance with AWWA C651, 1992 EDITION. The tapping sleeve
and the exterior of the main to be tapped shoo be disinfected
by spraying or swabbing per Section Two of AWWA C651-92,
5. The Jumper connection shall also be used to maintain a minimum
pressure of 20 PSI In the new mains continuously after
disinfection and until F.D.E.P clearance letter Is obtained.
6. The Contractor shalt provide documentation demonstrating that
the double check backftow prevention device Is in good working
order at the time of installation and provide documentation that the
double check backftow prevention device has been tested and is In
good working order one year from installation by a qualified back
flow technician os approved by Indian River County's Utility Engineer.
7. Except as required to flush tines greater- than 6' diameter, the
tle-in valve shalt remain closed and shalt be locked in the
closed position by the utility company. The tie-in valve shott
remain locked closed until the new system has been cleared for
use by FDEP and all other pertinent agencies.
8. Upon receipt of clearance for use from FDEP and all other
pertinent agencles, the Controctor shalt remove the temporary
Jumper connection. The corporation stops are to he closed and
plugged with 2' brass stops.
9. All installation and maintenance of the temporary Jumper
connection and associated backftow prevention device, fittings
valves, etc„ shalt be the responsibility of the Contractor.
10. If' the water main to be flushed is larger than 6' diameter
or such length that a full pipe flush at the 25 FPS velocity
cannot be accomplished, the following procedure shall be utilized.
a) Install pressure gauges as indicated on detail (W-12A).
b) Open all downstream valves In the new system prior to flush.
c) Flush new water main thru tie-in valve
maintaining a 10+ PSI pressure differentiat
between gauges during flush.
d) Tie-in valve shall be operated by county
personnel, in the presence of the engineer
of record to insure that the required
pressure differential is maintained.
