HomeMy WebLinkAbout10061999Stringer - change 4.08(c) to "at the first regular meeting occurring more than 3 days following the election." MeCollum - give 2 to 3 weeks transition time - no need for special meeting for swearing in - can be done at regular - initial discussion was 2 weeks then 3 when we discussed November election - Committee would agree with waiting 2 regular meetings to reduce time to about 3 weeks Neuberger - 3rd regular meeting to long to wait Bishop - 6 weeks too long - would go along with something within next 2 meetings - nice to have special meeting for swearing in then time to get ready for regular meeting within 2 to 4 weeks Barezyk - 4 weeks easier for transition than 6 weeks Majeher - concur with Bishop - special meeting - 2 weeks or 2 meetings more than adequate for people coming in and going out McCollum - perhaps have special meeting on 3rd Monday in March - election is I st Monday in March (election is actually 2ndMonday in March and our special meeting is currently 3rd Monday in March) Stringer - cities typically have quick turnaround - next regular meeting or some call special meeting Neuberger - like idea of speeial meeting for swearing in - let Council have next regular meeting then new Council come back to next meeting - have special meeting on Monday (this is how we do it currently) Majcher - 3rd Monday? O'Halloran - noted election is 2nd Tuesday in March Hill - if recount required the way it is may be too soon Bishop - agreeable to 4 week period Barczyk - cut down to 4 weeks Majcher - agree with 2nd regular meeting Neuberger - election should be in November O'Halloran - said she had Majcher, Bishop and Barczyk at 2 meetings - 4 weeks and Neuberger said amendment should be dropped McCollum - asked about receipt of canvassing board 3 days after election Stringer - asked if they wanted this at end of regular meeting and Bishop - responded at special meeting Stringer - "A special meeting will occur like two meetings after. With it being a special meeting, I'm going to have to figure out exactly how to word that. Approximately the time of the second meeting following the election and the results would be declared at the first regular meeting that occurs at least three days after the election. This is where you declare the results. This is not where they take office, this is where they declare the results. Its two different things." McCollum - "That was my question. I thought we were going to add language so it would not happen that next night, it would allow a week in there and that was where we were going to put in the first regular meeting more than 3 days after the election. Stringer - "I know what you want." McCollum - Committee agrees - we'd support going to the 4 weeks Amendment No. Consensus Mayor Neuberger Mr. Barczyk Mr. Bishop Mr. Majcher Mr. Barczyk Mr. Bishop Mn Majcher Mayor Neubcrger Mr. Bishop Mr. Majcher Mayor Neuberger Mr. Barczyk Mayor Neuberger Mayor Neuberger ~.
