CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER 1225 MAIN STREET, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA Staff Present Brian Benton, Leisure Services Director Cathy Testa, Records Specialist Jeanette Williams, City Clerk Paul Carlisle, City Manager Participants Present Marc Gingras Michelle Morris Britney Melchiori Donna Ware Patti Williams Sally Maio 1. ORDER The Centennial Celebration meeting was called to order at 10:00am 2. REPORTS A. Staff Items MOTION by Ms. Carlisle and a SECOND by Ms. Testa to approve the minutes from January 23, 2023. MOTION approved by unanimous voice vote. B. Marketing & Promotion Mr. Benton said he is grateful to Ms. Melchiori and Ms. Irwin for working so hard to develop some social media images. He informed everyone that our Facebook page is live. He spoke with Ms. Brook -Reese and said she has the sponsorship template on our website. He reminded everyone there will not be a lot of content on the website at first, it will mainly be the sponsorship information; how to contact us and the highlights of the yearlong events. C. Art The coloring book pictures were passed around and everyone chose an image to add a historical phrase to for the coloring book: Train Station — Ms. Testa Veterans — Mr. Gingras Old School House — Ms. Maio Pelican Stamp — Mr. Carlisle Kayak on the Sebastian River — Ms. Morris Centennial Celebration Committee Meeting February 13, 2023 Page 2 Paul Kroegel — Ms. Ware Fisherman's Landing — Mr. Benton The Chesser Family — Ms. Chesser Captain Hardee Main Street Boat Ramp — Ms. P. Williams D. Historical Ms. Maio said she wants to know when the deadline is to have the articles she is writing for the 100 Sebastian Magazine done. She offered a few ideas for articles she is considering writing about. Ms. Maio said she will have her articles and the time line done by July 2023. E. Parades & Special Events Mr. Gingras said the festival planners would like to get together with the city at some point to discuss the plan for each of the events. F. Sponsorships Brian said the sponsorship packet has been finalized. Everyone agreed that Ms. Melchiori and Ms. Irwin did an outstanding job putting the packet together. Ms. Testa will send out the link for the interactive list of sponsors, this will allow everyone to share who they have spoken to and make notes. 3. NEXT MEETING The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 23, 2023 at 10:00am 4. ADJOURN Being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 10:26am. Providing design, content and editing of the magazine Total = $17,350. COLORING BOOK PHRASES Pelican Island Stamp March 14, 1903, by executive order of President Theodore Roosevelt, Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge was the first official wildlife refuge in the United States. In recognition of the 100th year anniversary, the U.S. Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp to celebrate the centennial anniversary marking the beginning of the National Wildlife Refuge system. The Sebastian Train Station On December 11, 1893, a crowd turned out at the Sebastian Station to greet the train as it chugged into town for the first time. Fisherman's Landing Fisherman's Landing's purpose is for the commercial harvest of marine life by commercial fisherman, it also promotes and educates the public about the economic, cultural, and historical heritage of Florida's traditional working waterfronts. Old School House In 1927 a new school was built on Main Street. In 1983 the building was turned over to the City and would become City Hall until 2004 when a new City Hall was built next door. It is now a historical museum, Indian River State College classrooms and environmental agency offices. Main Street Boat Ramp A Gateway to our Indian River Lagoon for boaters and fisherman offering panoramic views of our marine and wildlife to visitors walking and biking the area.
