Mayor Lonnie Powell was the last Mayor elected by citizens in 1992, a referendum that same year was
passed that all candidates would run for Council seats and then the seated Council would elect Mayor and
Vice Mayor for one year terms.
Louise Cartwright was elected Mayor by Council and served from March 1996 to March 1997.
Ruth Sullivan was elected Mayor by Council and served from March 1998 to March 1999.
Martha Wininger was elected Mayor by Council and served from March 1999 and then was deceased in
October 1999 and replaced by Vice Mayor Neuberger until March 2000.
Andrea Coy was Mayor from March 2007 to October 2008.
Referendum in March 2007 changed annual elections from March to November.

Yes on female Mayor (four as I recall -- Louise Cartwright, Ruth Sullivan, Martha Wininger and Andrea Coy)
and no on a black Mayor.

I'm working on a story today about how Fort Pierce could elect its first female or first black mayor this year with some of
the candidates who have entered the race, and I'm taking a quick survey of the other Treasure Coast cities.
Has Sebastian ever elected a female mayor? Has Sebastian ever elected a black mayor?
