SEBASTIAN CITY COUNCIL
WORKSHOP MEETING
THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 19~8 - 3:00 P.M.
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
1225 MAIN STREET, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA
Mayor Harris called the meeting to order at 3:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Present:
Councilman George Metcalf
Councilman Peter Vallone
Mayor L. Gene Harris
Mayor Harris announced that the purpose of the meeting was
to interview two architectural firms relative to their pro-
posals for a Police Facility.
The first interview was at 3:00 P.M. with the Smith, Korach,
Hayet, Haynie Partnership of Fort Lauderdale. Florida. Pre-
sentation was made by Bernard Horovitz and Marlo Oliva. This
interview ended at 3:48 P.M.
The second interview was at 3:50 P.M. with Stottler Stagg
and Associates. Presentation was made by John White and
Larry Maxwell. This interview ended at 4:27 P.M.
Both firms talked briefly about their backgrounds and qualifi-
cations. Both said essentially the same things - they have
experience with Police Facilities which should be built with
future growth in mind; they both have at hand all the expertise
required - i.e. planners, engineering, construction, landscaping -
with an over-all project manager who would work closely with
the City Officials and the Police Department and exchange ideas.
After the interviews were over, Councilman Metcalf stated that
these firms have everything at hand. C. E. Block (the first
firm the Council selected for interview) had to team up with
Mosby Engineering and he was of the opinion that Mosby was too
involved with the City.
Councilman Vallone thought the work of Stottler Stagg was more
impressive.
Mayor Harris stated he was familiar with Block's work and thought
the firm very capable. Also they have done a lot of renovating,
if we wished to consider that possibility. The other firms seem
to shy away from that. Mayor Harris added that we have to
negotiate first with C. E. Block, then with Stottler Stagg.
He will bring this matter up at the next Council Meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 4:36 P.M.
Minutes were approved at the Regualar City Council Meeting on
January 27, 1988.
