Airport Study
Should Be Fair
There seems to be some concern
among aviation proponents that
the Standstill Agreement (Sebas-
tian Airport Referendum) studies
won't fairly consider their point of
view.
I'm sure the study will include a
copy of the Airport Master Plan.
That plan was wisely withdrawn
by the Sebastian Council because
of its bias in favor of aviation in-
terests.
The study should put aviation in-
terests in proper balance with the
interests of the whole community.
Isn't that why the referendum was
soundly passed by Sebastian
voters?
Community interest in a "good -
neighbor" airport was arrogantly
ignored prior to the March 1989
referendum. Much, if not all, of the
current turmoil could have been
avoided had the 1988 referendum
(same subject, same vote) been
heeded by the powers then in
office.
Councilman McCarthy has been
in office through it all, and has
singly had the vision. and fortitude
to bring it through. The hostile
effort to recall McCarthy that's in
the air, will, I'm sure, stay there.
The man should be our next
mayor.
