HomeMy WebLinkAbout03161944SPECIAL MEETING M~RCH 16, 1944 ~.~eeting was called to order by Mr. Mlddleton, PreSident of the Council, with the following memb'ers present: Mayor: E.W. Vickers Councilmen: Middleton, Hardee, Tillis,and Smith The meeting was called for the purpose of taking c~re of anything that might come up before the regular meeting.. Minutes of the Febru~ry meeting were called for but were not ready. Letters from. Attorney M~tchell to ~lss Peggy Buckles, City Clerk and Mr. Middleton, Council President, dated February 17th and March 17th, 1944 were read and discussed, and in regard to the City Bonds located in the safety de- posit box at the Bank in Vero Beach, it was decided that twa members of the Council would investigate and find out the c~ntents of the box. The question of an audit or appraisal was brought up by Councilman Mid- dleton and discussed by the Council. A motion was made by Councilman Hardee and seconded by Councilman Smith that Mayor Vickers be authorized to have Mr. Baker of 0rlRnde come and audit City Books. The motion was carried. It was suggested by Mayor Vickers that Attorney ~itchell contact Mr. Bayn~rd in all important matters pertaining to the City Bonds, instead of having him deal directly with the City Council. The City Clerk is authorized to collect as p~yment in full for delinquent taxes 15% of the principal sum of said t~xes for the years 1933 and prior there- to, and that the amount of t~xes for each of said years be based upon the taxes of the various properties and fixed by the 1933 tax assessment roll of said City. That 20% of the principal sum of said taxes for the yes,rs 1934 ~nd 1935 and 30% of the years 1936 and 1937, based upon the taxes of the varlous proper- ties a~d fixed by the 1933 tax assessment roll. That all the balance be paid in full. A motion was made by Councilman Hardee and seconded by Councilman Smith that the Council accept the resignation of ~r. F. G. Hamrick, City Clerk, as of April 27, 1943. Motion was carried. A motie~iwas,~made by C~udcllma~ Smi~hL~d duly seconded that ~rs. F. C. Vickers be made City Clerk till some one else can be found to take over the job; motion carried. A co~aittee composed of Councilmen H~rdee and Smith were appointed by the President of the Council to advise with the Mayor and to look over the property owned by the City in order ~ set ~ price on said property. A motion was made by Councilman Hardee and seconded by Councilman Tlllis that the City draw up a deed to Lot 12, Block 4, School Park S/D, in favor ef Archie Smith for the sum of $50,00; motion was carried. Middleton, with the following members present: Mayor: E.W. Vickers Councilmen: Mlddleton, Smith, and Shaw Clerk: (Mrs.) Estelle L. Vickers Minutes of the March 16th meeting were re~d and approved as corrected. Our Nayor has reported to the CoKmnittee that ~r. Baker, Accountant from Orlando, hs~ started and audit of the City Books and will finish the job at the earliest possible moment. The Committee on appraisal of City property is not yet ready to report, Motion was made by Mayor Vickers and duly seconded t'hat meeting adjourn. Motion was carried. C~uncil President City Clerk
