SPECIAL EMERGENCY MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 10:00 A.M. BY MAYOR PAT FLOOD, JR.
PRESENT: VICE MAYOR LEWIS GRAY, COUNCILMEN JOHN R. JOACHIM, CLIFFORD HOOSE, AND MAYOR PAT
FLOOD, JR.
ABSENT: COUNCILMAN EVERETT T. GASS (ILL).
MEETING WAS CALLED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCUSSING THE PURCHASE OF TWO LOTS ACROSS FROM OUR PUBLIC
LOT WHICH ARE TO BE AUCTIONED OFF AT A PUBLIC SALE IN VERO BEACH AT 11:00 A.M. THIS DATE, BECAUSE
OF DELINQUENT TAXES. IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE AUCTION WAS TO BE HELD ON APRIL 14, BUT SINCE IT
WAS LEARNED THAT THE DEADLINE WAS 11:00 A.M. APRIL 4, CITY ATTORNEY L. B. VOCELLE SUGGESTED THAT
A SPECIAL MEETING BE CALLED TO DETERMINE HOW HIGH THE CITY SHOULD BID. THERE ARE TWO 50 FOOT LOTS,
WORTH $100. PER FRONT FOOT. EVEN THOUGH THE LOTS ARE TOO SMALL FOR BUILDING PURPOSES, THEY COULD
BE USED FOR PARKING. MAYOR FLOOD STATED THAT AT $100. PER FRONT FOOT, IT WOULD AMOUNT TO $10,000.
VICE MAYOR GRAY FELT THAT THIS AMOUNT WAS TOO HIGH. PERHAPS $5,000. WOULD BE MORE REALISTIC.
MAYOR FLOOD SAID THE MANDATORY MINIMUM BID IS $1,573.90 AND HE DID NOT BELIEVE ANYONE WOULD EXCEED
THAT AMOUNT AND FELT $5,000. SHOULD BE THE LIMIT. THE CITY CLERK AND THE CITY ATTORNEY WiLL
REPRESENT THE CITY AT THE AUCTION.
COUNCILMAN JOACHIM MADE A MOTION THAT THE LOTS SHOULD BE BID WITH A MAXIMUM CEILING OF $4,500.
MOTION WAS NOT SECONDED. HOWEVER, VICE MAYOR GRAY AND COUNCILMAN HOOSE SUGGESTED A CEILING OF
$5,100. IN THE EVENT SOMEONE BID $5,000.
FLOYD WILKES APPRAISED THE PROPERTY AT $75. PER FRONT FOOT FOR A TOTAL EVALUATION OF $7,400.
MAYOR FLOOD STATED THAT HE ALSO FELT $5,100. SHOULD BE THE TOP OFFER BY THE CITY. THE STATE
MAY COME IN WITH A BOND ISSUE AND IN THE FUTURE THIS WATERFRONT PROPERTY MAY BE WORTH $10,000.
THIS IS REALLY WHY $5,100. SHOULD B/~E ~I~T~ ~CHASE OF THIS PROPERTY WOULD GIVE THE
CITY ABOUT A 500 FOOT FRONT EXCEPT O~ ~HE 39 ~-EET~-~F \T~ FUTSHAW PROPERTY. THE PROPERTY COULD
SE USED FOR A PUBLIC PARK WITH PICN~C~TABLES' ~TC' ~'/
