Special Meeting called for the purpose of discussing the resignation of Police ~Chief Russell N.Hughes,who has asked to be relieved of his position as of Spzil 27,1951 at §.00 P.M. And also for the purpose of disposing of the ramification of orders that will be for the best intrests of the City of Sebastian,and for the purpose of holding an executive session if it needs befor further relief. Those present were MMyor Middleton,President Sweatt and 0ouncilmen Sembler, Ellingsen,Shaffer and Da~lstrom. ~ Mayor Middleton presented the City Council with 'the written resignation of Chief Hughes for their inspection and after some discUssions,Mayor Middleton asked the Council to accept the resignation,whereby Councilman Sembler moved that a written acceptance of said resignation be given 0hief Hughes with their regrets and reccomendation if he so desires,motion seconded by ~ouncilman Dahlstrom and carried. ~here being no more 'business meeting adjourned. Gounc il Regular Mee$ing May 14,1951. Meeting called to order by President Sweatt. Those present were Mayor Middleton,President Sweatt,Councilmen Sembler,Ellingsen, Shaffer and Dahlstrom.Attorney Vocelle present. Monutes of regular meeting of April 9th and special meeting of APril 24th were approved as read. Bills to the amount of $203.23 approved bt the finance committee were ordered paid on motion by Councilman Dahlstrom which was seconded by Councilman Ellingsen.Carried. Bids on painting the City Hall were opened and both bids being for $125.00 for said paimting,the work was awarded to Algot Engstrom.He being a resident of Sebastian. Councilman Dahlstrom Chairman of the Fire Department asked the City Council to pass on paying one third of insurance policy for Volunteer Firemen and said request was pa~sed on motion by Councilman Sembler which was seconded by'Couz~cilman Shaffer. Carried. Mr Hadden sanitary inspector for the State and Indian River County asked the City Council to cooperate on cleaning up what few remaining vlolat~ms there'?Jwe~e left and descided to an. additional extension of 90 days to allow those who have started their work to finish and others to star~ethelr work before penalties will be imposed.Motion by Councilman Ellingsen which was seconded by Councilman Sembler passed said extension On motion 0y Councilman Ellingsen which was seconded by Councilman Sem~ler,~ Haddon was given an order for one bag of cement to seal up drain tiles which empty in the Indian River,said drain tiles carrying over flows from septic tanks, carried. The Clerk was instructed as tax assessorof the City to get list of all lands which was at one time within ~he City limits and now being outside of the limits ~o ~e assessed .o12 mills for debt service on Bond Issue which was pa~sed at the time said lands were with- in the corporate limits of the City of Sebastian. ~oZi~mdmade by Councilman Ellingsen and seconded by Councilman Shaffer.Carried. Clerk was instructed to place add in the Vero Press Journal for competent police officer. Clerk was authOrized to order envelopes and pads needed for o~fice on motion by Council man Sembler and seconde~ by CounCilman Ellingsen. There ~eing no more business meeting adjourned. Pr~.
