HomeMy WebLinkAbout05091960Regular Meeting May 9, 1960 Meeting was called to order by President Semb!er. Those present were Mayor Rohme, Councilmen Finnegan, Nash, Brehmer and Baxter. Clerk res.d the minutes of the regular meetings of April 11 and 25th. 1960. These minutes were approved as read. Bills amounting to ~980.28 were approved by the finance committee and were authorized to be paid cna motion by Councilman Nash, second by ~ouncilman Brehmer and carried. Clerk read correspondence in reference to proposed meetings with Wm. Bosworth and the City of Sebastian and A. E. Sirota and the City of Sebastian, also a recommendation from the street inspector on Louisiana Ave. Councilman Brehmer reported the ordering of the installation of 6 4000-lumen lights in the Sebastian Highlands. Council Brehmer re$~ested the City to help finance the Fire Dept. on the painting of one truck. Councilman Baxter made a motion that the City create a Fire Dept. Sinking fund in the First Federal Savings and Loan Assoc., with money for this fund to be taken from any excess monies of the Fire Dept. budget at the end of each fiscal year. This motion was seconded by Councilman Nash and carried Councilman Brehmer stated that he had received permission from Julius De~aele to place a sign advertising Pelican Island. Councilman Nash discussed the possibility of a drainage ditch from the S. A. Rudd property in an easterly direction to the Indian ~iver. President Sembler appointed Mayor Rohme and Councilman Nash as a committee to meet with Robert Duerden and present a plat showing the location and dimensions of the proposed drainage ditch from S. A. ~dd property to the In. dian River. City clerk was instr~.~cted to contact Capt. Goree and Attorney Vocelle in reference to an ~greement between Sebastian Aviation Inc. and the City of Sebastian. President Sembler appointed Councilman Baxter and Mr. A. Homan Strickland, Manager of Sebastian Highlands, on a house-numbering committee to determine a workable plan for the numbering of houses within the City of Sebastian. Councilman Baxter reported to the Council that the tractor recently purchased from the Sunrise Tractor Co., is being repaired with new pistons and rings, said pistons and rings are being furnished free of charge b~ the Sunrise Tractor Co. A motion was made by Councilman Finnegan and second by Councilman N~sh providing that all complaints £rom residents regarding roads and ditches, which would re~luire the outlay of cash by the city, be referred to the city clerk. The city clerk would respire that all complaints be submitted in written form, except,of course, on emergency matters. The clerk was instructed to have ~. 0. Dailey & Co. meet with the City at the · time when the city receives that bank statements for the Month of May, 1960. President Sembler reported to the Council that the City h~s purchase~ six bonds in the amount of ?4973.33. Mayor Rohme requ~sted that the city paint "School Zone Crossing" on U.~. #1, approximately one and one-half blocks each side of Main St. The City clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Mather of the State Road Dept., in refernece to this matter. Mayor Rohme re$.~ested permission to paint the corner curbs red for "NO ?arkin~$ at the intersection of the ~est side of U. S. #1 and First Street, and also at the intersection o£ North Central and First Street. President Sembler appointed Co~.~ncilman Baxter, Mayor Rohme and Chief of Police on a co~mittee to inspect the above memtioned locations and make any decision necessary. Mayor Rohme requested the City to lower the speed limits on Indian River Drive, thru the City Limits to 25 M.P.H. Councilamn Baxter made a motion to accept the Mayor's recommendations on the 25 M.?.H. speed limit on Indian River Drive. Second by Councilman Brehmer and carried. Mayor Rohme req~.~ested the city to allot ~ · ~.00 per week for a typist for the Police Dept. Clerk was instructed by the Council to have his secretary do this work. Mayor Rohme read the monthly police report, which showed a net profit of ~93~.86. The Chief of Police reported that all stop streets would be strictly enf~rced beginning on the 16th. day of May 1960., and that the maximum bond for violators would be ten dollars.
