HomeMy WebLinkAbout05121978482 SPECIAL MEETING - MAY 12, 1978 AT THE CLOSE OF THE PUBLIC HEARING RE: LICENSING COMMISSION ON MAY 12, 1978, VICE MAYOR GRAY REQUESTED PERMISSION TO BRING UP ANOTHER MATTER. REQUEST WAS GRANTED. VICE MAYOR GRAY SOUGHT THE OPINION OF THE COUNCIL AS TO WHETHER MRS. META CHESSER BOLINGER SHOULD BE PERMITTED TO USE THE YACHT CLUB WITHOUT CHARGE ON MAY 23 FOR A SORORITY MEETING. AFTER SOME DISCUSSION iT. WAS DECIDED THAT MRS. BOLINGER SHOULD BE PERMITTED TO DO SO THIS TIME, SINCE IT HAS BEEN THE PRACTICE IN THE PAST, BUT IN THE FUTURE, ALL REQUESTS FROM ANYONE FOR USE OF THE YACHT CLUB WITHOUT CHARGE WILL BE JUDGED ON ITS OWN MERITS. MOTION BY COUNCILMAN JOACHIM, SECONDED BY VICE MAYOR GRAY, THAT THE COUNCIL BE NOTIFIED OF ALL SUCH REQUESTS SO THAT EACH ONE MAY BE JUDGED ON ITS OWN MERITS. CARRIED. THE CITY CLERK SUGGESTED THE YACHT CLUB BE OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED AS THE "CITY OF SEBASTIAN CLUB HOUSE". MAYOR FLOOD FELT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A SLOGAN CONTEST iN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION AND SUGGESTED THAT THIS IDEA BE BROUGHT UP AT THE WORKSHOP MEETING. COUNCILMAN JOACHIM STATED THAT SOME TIME AGO THERE HAD BEEN A DISCUSSION WITH REFERENCE TO PUTTING BULLETINS ON CABLE TV, BUT THIS HAD NEVER BEEN DONE. MAYOR FLOOD SAID THAT WE COULD ARRANGE TO ISSUE A BULLETIN NOTIFYI~E ~B~T~ ~TICULAR SUBJECT WAS TO BE DISCUSSED, BUT NOT THE WHOLE AGENDA, AND SUGGESQW~JTHA~ THIS -~AT~ ~E DISCUSSED AT EACH WORKSHOP MEETING TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING OF SUFFICIENT 3[MPOROR~ANFE TO PUBLICIZE. MAYOR PUBLIC HEARING - LICENSING COMMISSION - MAY 12, 1978 MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY MAYOR PAT FLOOD, JR., AT 2:00 P.M. PRESENT: VICE MAYOR LEWIS GRAY, COUNCILMEN EVERETT T. GASS AND JOHN R. CITY ATTORNEY L. B. VOCELLE. ABSENT: COUNCILMAN CLIFFORD HOOSE (VACATION). JOACHIM, MAYOR PAT FLOOD, JR., PURPOSE OF THE MEETING WAS TO DISCUSS THE FINAL PASSAGE AND ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE DEFINING AND REGULATING THE BUSINESS OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND CONTRACTING IN THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN; CREATING THE CiTY OF SEBASTIAN CONSTRUCTION BOARD; FIXING QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS AND PROVIDING POWERS AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD; FIXING CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES AND FEES THEREFOR; PROVIDING EXEMPTIONS; PROVIDING PENALTIES; PROVIDING ANEFFECTiVE DATE. FOR THE RECORD THE CITY CLERK READ THE NOTICE OF THE PUBLIC HEARING AS ADVERTISED IN THE VERO BEACH PRESS JOURNAL ON APRIL 26, AND 30, 1978. MAYOR FLOOD REQUESTED COMMENTS FROM ANY INTERESTED MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC. EDWARD BRANDT, 329 TANGELO STREET, BROUGHT UP SEVERAL POINTS THAT HE CONSIDERED MERITEDATTENTION. AFTER CONSIDERABLE DISCUSSION AND THE DECISION TO MAKE SOME CHANGES, MR. VOCELLE SUGGESTED THAT MAYOR FLOOD STATED THAT A SPECIAL MEETING WILL BE HELD\BEfORE THE WORKSHOP MEETING ON JUNE 7.
