THE WORKSHOP MEETING ON JUNE 6, 1979, POLICE CHIEF JAMES CUMMINS INFORMED THE COUNCIL THAT THERE
HAS BEEN 3 TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS RECENTLY ON BARBER STREET. IN ONE CASE WHICH WENT TO COURT, THE JUDGE
HANDED DOWN A "NOT GUILTY" VERDICT SINCE THERE ARE NO STOP SIGNS ON STREETS LEADING INTO A MAIN
ARTERIAL STREET. THE SUPREME COURT HAS RULED THAT LACK OF STOP SIGNS AT INTERSECTIONS IS CAUSE TO
BRING SUIT AGAINST A CITY. SINCE IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT STREET SIGNS BE ERECTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE,
MAYOR FLOOD ADJOURNED THE WORKSHOP MEETING AND CALLED FOR A MOTION TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY MEETING.
MOTION BY VICE MAYOR GRAY, SECONDED BY COUNCILWOMAN MCKINLEY, TO CALL AN EMERGENCY MEETING. CARRIED.
MOTION BY VICE MAYOR GRAY, SECONDED BY COUNCILWOMAN MCKINLEY, TO GO TO BIDS FOR STOP SIGNS. CARRIED
MOTION BY COUNCILWOMAN MCKINLEY, SECONDED BY VICE MAYOR GRAY, TO ADJOURN THE SPECIAL EMERGENCY MEETING.
CARRIED.

VICE MAYOR GRAY SUGGESTED THAT THE BID BE TURNED~ER ~HE AWARDS COMMITTEE WITH THE REQUEST
THEIR RECOMMENDATION TO ACCEPT OR REJECT.
