Minutes of the regular meeting of J~e 5,i945,were read and approved as reid. ~ ~/' Mrs. Florida Rembert, of st~e~,aSked~/~ permission to l:ake the floor~at the opening of ~he meeting to i~rotest at the excessive taxes on her property. SLe based her pro,est on the ground~ that the sta~e had taken 200it.for highw~-~y usc,le~ving a mere strip of s~nd on the river front. Mrs. Rembe~t's tax was declared as $253. 25 for the years· 194&-1935. ~L~61 fer to settle for $1.50 was taken under advi~emenl: ~until the ne.x~ meeting. Councilman Hardee , seconded by 8ouncilma~:smith, moved that the Chair ap- point a committee':of three to draw up a list of City ,~ owned property and fix price for same. The motion was carried unanimously. Chair ~reupon appointed the f~llowIng: '?he Councilman B.~. Shaw Councilman Archie Smith Councilman M. G. Hardee. Councilman Hardee resigned in,favor of Mr. Harry Bohannon. Mayor E.W. Vickers and Chairman J. R. Middleton were appointed members ex- officio. Councilman Shaw moved to pay the Fire insurance on the CityHall. On second by Councilma~mith,the motion was carried unanimously. On a motion by Councilman Shaw, second by Oouncllman Hardee,it was moved to ::,~:,:::. insure the contents owned by the City and located in the City Hall,against fire,to the amount of $1,000, an~storm insurance to the amount of $500. Carried unanimously. Two committees volunteered to assist on records in the office,consisting of Er. Harry Bohamnan and Mr. L. ~. Shafo.r, who were to check tax receipt books. Mr. R. B. Letchworth and Councilman E B. Shaw ,to~.~$heek receipt books with the tax rolls. On a motion by Councilman Smith the meeting adJounned at 10:30 P.M.
