RE: CURRENT TOPIC UPDATES
DATE: Friday, June 20, 2008
I wanted to provide a quick update on just a few topics of interest. As always, if you have
questions about these or any other matters, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Have a nice weekend.
AIRPORT MEETING
Joe Griffin and I conducted a staff work meeting, which took place at the Airport Administration
Building on Thursday, June 12, 2008. The meeting was well attended by airport users, Roseland
residents, as well as representatives from Flight Safety. In short, the meeting went well and laid
some groundwork for these groups to keep informed of Airport Operations. The basic points of
the meeting were for Airport Staff to make attempts to address the following talking points
generated from meeting discussion:
1. FLIGHT PATTERN TEST with resident notification. A new flight patter with is wider was
suggested by Bob Denton. To see if this patter provided noise relief for residents
coordination would occur for resident visual checks.
2. FLIGHT SAFETY will report on whether the new flight patter is "fly -able" with respect to
safety and operations and report back to Joe Griffin.
3. Airport to stress pattern altitude of 1,000 AGL.
4. City to conduct some public relations on Airport operations and information with local
groups.
Finally another meeting to discuss the results of the above efforts will be conducted sometime in
August.
EASY STREET
Construction on Easy Street continues to progress and our target completion date of August
seems within reach. Sidewalk construction is nearly complete and only a minor portion of %4
rounds remains to be installed along the east portion of the road. Asphalt paving is being
scheduled within the next two weeks. As long as the rain does not become a problem, the road
should be completed after asphalt. Once the road is complete, Public Works crews will continue
in the area with side -yard pipe, culvert replacements and swale repairs in the areas that are in the
drainage basin of Easy.
JACKSON STREET AND US 1
As you know the intersection of Jackson Street and US 1 has become a bit of a dangerous
intersection. Based on some statistical data provided by Chief Davis and through coordination
with Chris Mora in the Indian River County Transportation office, the FDOT is in the processes of
extending the northbound, left hand turn lane by approximately 100 feet. This will "rack" an
additional 5 cars that are making the left turn into Wal-Mart. Construction is schedule to start
shortly and last for approximately 60-90 days.
POWER LINE ROAD SOUTH
Also in a meeting with the County, because of delays in development with the Cross Creek
subdivision, the County has had some difficulty in obtaining the right-of-way required to pave the
southern portion of Power Line Road South. Chris Kaffer informed City officials yesterda7 that
the County has nearly obtained the ROW and is planning to pave the southern portion of the road
by August/September.
FLAGSHIP MARINA
The appraisals for Flagship Marina have now been received. Ken Killgore and I are in the
process of preparing a performa to provide financial guidance on the possible purchase of this
parcel. I have been in contact with Damien Gilliams and he will be awaiting the City to provide
him an offer. My goal is to have the perform prepared by next week and move forward in
discussion with Council.
