HomeMy WebLinkAbout09261960Regular Meeting September 26, 1960 Meeting was called to order by President Sembler. Those present were M~yor Rohme, President Sembler, and Councilmen Finnegan, Nash, Baxter and Brehmer. Clerk read correspondence in reference to merger of Seaboard and Atlantic Coastline Railroads, also letter from City Sttorney in reference to deed for Righter Way for West Main Street. Clerk was~lms~ru_cte~ to write a letter to the city Engineer James Darling in reference to a recent survey by Mr. R. D. Carter of the properties immediately north of the Sebastian Cemetery. The Engineer to be informed of a 76 ft. discrepancy in his survey and the survey of R. D. Carter on that portion of new cemetery. One copy of this letter to be sent to Mr. Carter and one copy to L. B. Vocelle. Mrs. Messec requested the ~ouncil to issue a beer and wine license for the Sebastian Inn. Councilman ~innegan made a motion to issue said license. Second by Councilman Nash and carried. Councilman ~innegan requested that the City Attorney be contacted in reference to the cit$'s authority to place certain restrictions on establishments selling liquor, beer and wine. Councilman B~xter reported that people living outside the city are still using the city dump. This matter was referred to the Mayor. Councilman B~xter reported that the street department had dug a ditch along the right of way of Indd. an River Drive adjoining the Thcs. Cobb property to allow proper drainage in that area. Councilman B~xter presented pictures showing recent flooded conditions in the drainage ditches in Sebastian Highlands. Councilman Baxter was requested by the Council to contact Mr. Joe Earman in reference to requesting ~ederal Aid for damage to the streets in the city during the recent rain storms. ~ The subject of a phone for the Police Dept., to be located in the nurses room was dissussed, and the Council agreed to abide by the M~yor's deeision~on this matter. Councilman Baxter reported that the Council had a very successful meeting with Mr. Joe E~r~an, Mr. MacDonald and Mr. ~. Q. Waddell. At the time of this meeting a Walkie-Talkie radio was discussed for the City Hall in case of an emergency. Council Baxter was appointed to get a price on this rBdio and report back to the Council, and at this time, action will be taken on this matter. Councilman Baxter requested to go on record as~proving a two-way radio to be located in the City Hall. Mayor Rohme stated that Chief Rubin Brock has requested that the city purchase a riot gun. This gun retails for a purchase price of approximately $112.00~ This gun c~n be purchased by the city for approximately $S0.00. The Council referred this matter to the Mayor ~or his decision. Mayor Rohme requested the Council to pay expenses for ~e city clerk to attend the Elorida League of Municipalities Convention in West Falm Beach on October S0, S1 and November l, 1960.
