Adjourned Regular Meeting Dec. 4, 1940.
Meeting was called to order with the following members present: Mayor Baughman,
Councilmen: Vickers, Murdoch, Shaw.
Councilman Shaw offered the following resolution and moved.its adoption:
Resolution
Whereas, as provided by law a general City election will be held in the City of
Sebastian, Florida, on Dec. 9, 1940 for the purpose of electing three members of
the City Council for the ensuing two years., therefore
Be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Sebastian, Florida, does here-
with determine that the following individuals have been duly qualified by petitions
of the requisite number of qualified electors of said city to be candidates for the
office of City Councilmen.
Be it further resolved, that the City Clerk is herewith instructed to have printed
and provide a sufficient number of ballots, for use in said election, which shall
be substantially in the following form.

Be it further resolved, that E. Futch, G. A. Braddock, Geo. Vickers be and they are
hereby named inspectors, and P.P. Lawson be, and he is hereby named as clerk to
conduct said election to be held in the City of Sebastian December 9, 1940 in
accordance with the provisions of law .in such cases made and provided.
Upon roll call the foregoing was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Vici:ers, Murdoch Shaw. Nays: None.
The Clerk was instructed to write the war Dept. lapsing pier permit.
Councilman Murdoch moved to adjourn to ~onday night Dec. 9. 1940, 7:30.
Motion carried.

Meeting was called to order with the following members present: Mayor Baughman,
Councilmen: Vickers, Mu~doch, Shaw.
Councilman Shaw introduced the following resolutionand moved its adoption:
The returns of the general city election held at Sebastian, Indian River County,
Florida, on Dec. 9, 1940, signed by the clerk and a majority of the inspectors of
said election were received by the city Council and filed, by the ci~w.u~e-~. The
city Council proceeded to canvas the returns and the results of said election as
shown by said returns, and thereupon Councilman Shaw introduced the following
resolution and moved its adoption:

Whereas, it appear.s from the returns of .the general city election held Dec. 9,1940
duly certified in duplicate by the clerk and a majority of inspectors of said
election, and one delivered to the city Clerk and by him transmitted to the City
Council, that the votes cast at said election w~re as follows:
For members of the City Council(three to be elected)
J.R. Mlddleton received 31 votes
G. K. Murdoch received 30 votes
.Archie Smith received 30 votes
Whereas, the City Council has canvassed the returns and the results as.shown by the
certificate of the clerk and inspectors of the election aforesaid and has found the
same correct; therefore
Be it reolved, that the results of the General city election held in the City of
Sebastian, Florida, on Dec. 9, .1940 be, and the same are here. by declared to be as follows:
For Councilmen: JR. Middleton, ~. K. Murdoch and Archie Smith and that Y. R. Middleton
G. E. Murdoch and Archie Smith be and they are hereby deslared to .have been. duly elected as
Councilmen for the term of two years next ensuing.
The Motion for its adoption, being duly seconded upon~oll acall l~ was adopted as
.follows: Ayes: Vlckers, Murdoch,.Shaw. Nays: None.
The Mayor administered oath of office as .city Councilmen to C. ~. Murdoch, Y. R.
Middleton and Archie Smith.
Motion made seconded and carried 'that reorganization of City Council .be.postponed until
regular meeting Dec. 23.
Motion made that Clerk write administrator of Geo. T. Badger .Estate in an effort to
secure uncashed city vouchers. Carried.
Clerk was instructed to amil notices to Council members before, each.meeting hereafter.
Councilman Murdoch moved to adjourn. CarTied.

The President named the following committees:

Sanitary: G. K. Murdoch, Archie Smith, B. E. Shaw
St. & Alley: B. E. Shaw, G. K. Murdoch, J. R. Middleton.
Councilman Murdoch moved that the Council meeting date be the .first Tuesday in each
month. Motion duly seconded and carried.
Councilman Shaw moved that F. G. Hamrick be city clerk for t. he unexpired term at the
same salary and conditions as last year. Motion duly seconded and carried.
Councilman Middleton moved that Chas A. Mitchell be retaine_d as arty for the ensuing
year at a retainer of 1§0..00. Motion seconded and carried.
Councilman :Shaw moved that H. G. Deppen be retained as city engineer for the ensuing
year at a retainer of 1.00. Motion seconded and. carried.
Councilman. Smith moved to adJourn., motion seconded and carried.
