HomeMy WebLinkAbout12161947December 16, 194'~ TO THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN This being my first meeting with the Council, it is my desire to express my appreciation for the opportunity to be with you in the capacity of Mayore In the first place, I want to say that co-operation is the principle upon which I intend to work and from which I trust we may bring about the best results for the City of Sebastian. I am glad to know that we have committees of importance that are expected to bring reports of progress on projects submitted to them and I hope that we may have your best ef- forts to subjects submitted to you, and I trust you wiYl feel f~ee~to call on me at all times for such help as you think I may render. I assure you I shall be glad to co-operate with you to the fullest extent. it is not my intention to be hasty in changing policies heretofore adopted, but results are what we want and I hope we can work together to bring about the best results. I believe in the proper policing of the City, looking toward the best service to business institutions and pro- tection of the people in general, - especially the children. Co-operation on the part of the parents will aid us materially in bringing about best results. From what I have learned, I believe we need an~ earnest effort to control careless ~ud reckless driving, as well as speeding through the city. However, I am not in sympathy with the idea of doing this for revenue only. I hope we can have a City dump in the near future and elevate the sanitary conditions of the City to the point where we might feel that infectious diseases can be held to a minimum. I am a firm believer in get-together meetings of the people of this community, and since we have the fishing industry here, a fish fry from time to time could easily be had, with all our friends invited to eat with us~ thereby creating an atmosphere of friendliness and building good will for our City. E believe we ~hould unite in a serious effort to promote the sale of all vacant land, whether owned by the City or by individuals, to people who will actually build homes or small industries, and to offer all possible encouragement and in- ducements to these people. -B- I reccom~end that an immediate audit of the City books be made and a financial statement prepared by the City's auditors. I request that the Council approve the salary o£ one dollar per year, for the services of the Mayor and City Judge. Respectfully submi t~ed, ~:' hat1 ~..
